April 29, 2003 ----- Janet will be appearing in an episode of "Sex & the City!" -June 22nd marks the date of the new season, so look for the episode entitled "Great Sexpectations." It should be one of the first few. Janet is in two restaurant scenes. The second scene features Kim Catrall and is the one that Janet says not to miss. Funny story line.

April 25, 2003 ----- New song available for listening! "Everything" written by Janet Rains & Ty Tabor: "Ty and I wrote and recorded this in one day. The lyrics just poured out since I had such a great inspiration sitting right across from me. The song is our story and contains some intimate things about us. For example, there's a line that says, " You're never to far to be forever mine....and I smile when we share the same moon." Ty and I would do this thing when he was touring and we couldn't be together. While we're on the phone with eachother, we'd both go outside and look at the moon at the same time. He'd ask, "Can you see it baby? " And when I could, it would make us feel like we weren't so many miles apart. That's the good stuff. That's what this song is about. Good stuff like that in a relationship means the world to me. It means "Everything."

March 23, 2002

Mid-March kicked off the beginnings of a future album for Janet. Producer/singer/songwriter, (and guitarist of the hard rock band King's X) Ty Tabor, has begun to write and record songs with Janet in his very own Alien Beans Studio in Houston, Texas.

"This (the recording) is a bit different for me because we're working with drum loops, which we both agreed was long overdue in my music," Janet says, "I haven't worked with drum loops in years, but I really missed them." Ty is known for his heavy guitar work with his band, although his die hard fans do know that he is much different on his solo works. Janet said, "Ty loves doing different styles of music and he does all of them so well. He plays every instrument, and is a master at producing. We wrote some stuff that I'm really excited about. I know the writing will get even stronger between us as this project continues. (Laughs) Everything else did," hinting at their romantic involvement.

There isn't a finish date as of yet. It will be a continuing process worked around busy schedules and tours, but Janet's new material will be made available sometime in 2002.

July 25, 2001

Word has it that Janet has teamed up with producer/songwriter Paul Vance and has started writing Country/Pop tunes to be placed with other artists. Vance has had decades of success in the music business marked by 24 gold albums to date. Everyone is familiar with his hit "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini," which he penned as a young man and has seen this song take on decades of uses in commercials, movies, remakes, and more. He has written hits for Perry Como, Johnny Mathis, among others and has had his songs covered by everyone from Doris Day to Devo. For a listing of some of Paul Vance's recordings go here: Paul Vance. Paul had first taken Janet under wing as a writer and now is looking at the possibilities of developing her as an artist. We'll keep a posting of developments as they go. Stay tuned.

April 25, 2001 --- During his opening slot for Bob Marley's band, the Wailers, Eric Gales surprised the audience by bringing Janet onstage to lead in the King's X tune, "Over My Head." Gales, who is currently touring in support of his debut album for MCA Records, was so impressed with the vocalist that there is talk of her touring later in the year as part of Gale's band. Eric has tour dates with Kenny Wayne Shepherd confirmed for the near future. There has been talk about possible dates with Lenny Kravitz as well. As far as Janet's future participation, stay tuned.

April 7, 2001 ---- We all know of the squeaky clean, Fox Family channel's TV Brit Pop band S CLUB7. Janet was recently hired to cut the lead vocals on a redo of the band's song "Never Had A Dream Come True" which is to be released internationally on a compilation album later this year. A dance mix will be released as well. This is not to imply that the band doesn't sing their own songs on their CD. Rest assured they are a group of young talents from the UK. No lip synching there. But, if you happen to be in a club grinding up a sweat to the S Club 7 Single "Never Had A dream Come True," know it's our little diva, JR.

In October, Janet got to visit with Mario Calire (drummer for Wallflowers who toured with Liz Phair during Lilith Fair) backstage at Madison Square Garden. The Wallflowers were opening for The Who. We got a hold of this pic capturing some kidding around between Jakob Dylan and Janet.

October 27, 2000 --After much delay, Janet's cover feature in The Rising (Women in Music magazine) is now available online for viewing. Janet talks about Lilith Fair and gives some helpful tips for those pursuing a career in Music.

10-3-2000 --- Janet goes to Hollywood:

Ms. Rains was all about town throughout September. She spent time with her friends in King's X and Podunk as they toured through the Los Angeles area. (See Photos) She visited the Rainbow a few times; House of Blues; Key Club; jammed at Highland Grounds in the Hollywood area and at Panama Joe's in Newport Beach. Checked out her friends in the band Haute Chili in San Diego. Saw her friends from the band Underground Railroad. Made a trip to Vegas, and much more. Too much to tell. The party was on! On the work front: Through Ty Tabor, the guitarist in King's X, Janet met Christian Nesmith. This union has sparked a great songwriting team. Christian (who is the son of Michael Nesmith of The Monkees) is, in Janet's words, "an amazing talent. He plays guitar, sings, and writes incredibly well. I've never really collaborated on songs with anyone. He and I just clicked. I don't think we even realized our potential until we started recording the tunes that we wrote. We sat there in awe as it (the recording) was coming together. I'm sure there is a future with this team. I'm very excited about it." Hopefully something for us to hear will be available soon. Just a few days ago, Janet went to a Barbecue at Dave Wilder's house. We remember Dave as Liz Phair's bassist who is now with Macy Gray. Other members of Macy's band were there too. Jebin Bruni (keyboardist with Liz, Fiona Apple, and now Aimee Mann) was there, as well as Rik Menck (drummer with Liz and Matthew Sweet). Other appearances were made by Nick Lashley (guitarist with Alanis) and Chris Chaney (bassist with Alanis and Methods of Mayhem). It was said to have been a great time for all. (Photos available soon) Janet plans on doing more writing and recording immediately. She keeps the business side of things private, but assures us that things are moving along and going well. Well, that's it for now folks!

Janet has recorded one re-mix and one parody of a song called "Chasey Lain" for Interscope Recording Artists, BLOODHOUND GANG. The two versions were re-arranged and produced by Kevin Powers who works with the band. (Kevin had worked in the Liz Phair camp from last year's Lilith through the Alanis tour).

The Bloodhound Gang are releasing their CD in the US next month and have already had much success in Europe. The re-mix and parody will not be on the CD, but will be used for other media.

Nov. 19, 1999---Word just in that Janet's Bitter End show seriously rocked! There were some curious Liz Phair fans there to see just what Ms. Rains is doing on her own and were blown away. A few fans were totally excited about meeting Janet before the show and wrote about their encounter on the Liz Phair mailing list: They had talked to a member of the band's family before the show and Janet was made aware that they were there. Janet walked right up to them and thanked them for coming to the show and talked with them for a short while. It really made their night! This week leading up to Turkey Day, Janet is in Boston finishing up a few songs that will be included on her debut CD, which is due to be released just after the New Year. Keep checking this site for updates on Janet's gigs and happenings.
