Author's Note: This fic would take place about five weeks after Carly returned from Martinique. The only difference is that she never tried to get Sonny back as she did on the show, Michael is home and they live in Carly's new house.
Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Come back and bring back my smile
Come and take these tears away
I need your arms to hold me now
The nights are so unkind
Bring back those nights
When I held you beside me
Carly studied herself in the bathroom mirror. She felt awful and the image in the mirror reflected that thought. Two large bags were formed under her eyes, her hair was limp and dull and it looked as if she had lost half of her weight. She slowly shook her head at herself.
"You gotta pull yourself together, Carly."
What she wouldn't give to replay the past few months of her life. Hell if that were the case, the past few years. Where would she start over if she could? Her ingenious plan? Further. Her marriage to Sonny? Further. The night she betrayed Jason? Yeah, without a doubt. No matter how much she tried to convince herself, that's when her life became a mess. She didn't even recognize herself anymore. She had become whiny and clingy and spineless. Everything she hated. Everything she vowed she would never be.
She opened the medicine cabinet and grabbed the bottle of aspirin. She tried to pop open the lid a few times, but remained unsuccessful. She threw it in the sink and shook her head.
"This is not you."
She sucked in a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"You are strong," she told herself quietly.
She opened her eyes again and grabbed the bottle. She studied it for a few seconds and then popped open the lid easily. She smiled triumphantly and took two of the pills drowning them with a glass of water. She put the bottle back in the cabinet and walked out of the bathroom, her head held high.
Carly came to the first bedroom and opened the door slowly, revealing a sleeping Michael. She went in quietly and tucked the sheets around him. She stared at him for a few seconds and then kissed his forehead knowing that any day now he would be telling her that he was too old for that sissy stuff. She smiled sadly and walked out, closing the door to his room behind her.
"God, how did he grow up so fast," she wondered.
She walked past two more doors and walked into the next room, heading straight for the bed. She stretched across the mattress and closed her eyes. She began to contemplate again when her life became a living hell and her thoughts continued to stray to Jason. She bit her bottom lip thinking of her best friend and smiled sadly trying to calculate the last time she had heard from him. God, it seemed like it was a lifetime ago.
Carly turned over onto her stomach and pulled out the small drawer of the nightstand that stood next to the bed. She propped herself up on her elbows as she emptied the contents on the bed and then placed the drawer back. She began to flip through the various pictures that were scattered and a slow wide smile began to spread across her face as she found the one she was looking for.
"Come home," she whispered.
Unbreak my heart
Say you'll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life
Uncry these tears
I cried so many nights
Unbreak my heart, my heart
Carly rolled over onto her back and hugged the picture to her chest. She rolled her eyes and chuckled sadly.
"Great, I'm goin' insane on top of it all," she told herself.
She sighed tiredly and looked at the picture once more. Her life certainly wasn't going the way she had thought it would. She was 28, married twice, and about to be divorced twice with a four year old son. Definitely not what she had planned years ago when she set foot in this town. She had a lot of regrets, who didn't, but there were only two solid things that she didn't regret and never would. Michael and Jason. She smiled again as her thoughts led to her two favorite men.
She shook her head quickly, not wanting her mind to travel down that road again for the millionth time. Carly looked around her bedroom and smiled slightly. She finally had her own home, that was a plus. Michael loved his room and the neighborhood was safe and quiet. It slightly reminded her of her home in Florida. That house wasn't all that great, but Virginia made it as homey as it could get. She frowned slightly. It had been years since she had visited her mother's grave. Adoptive or not, Virginia was the woman that had raised Carly and she would always consider her to be her true mother. She loved Bobbie immensely, but she could be so judgmental of her. Of course, everyone was judgmental of her. Everyone had tried to change her, including her mother and her husbands. She rolled her eyes at that thought. Everyone except Jason had tried to do that. He accepted her the way she was no question.
Carly shook her head again. "What in the hell is wrong with you tonight?" she mumbled to herself.
Jason continued to remain on her mind and as those thoughts continued, the door to her room slowly opened. And as if on cue, he appeared. Carly sat up and she outstretched her arms to him.
"Come home," she whispered.
He walked slowly to her, a smile on his face.
"Hey," he whispered.
A second later they were in each other's arms, lost in a passionate kiss.
Carly bolted upwards from the bed and took in a few deep breaths. She looked around the empty lighted room and her eyes traveled to the door that remained shut.
"Jesus Christ," she mumbled.
It was the same dream she had every night for the past five weeks and it always ended the same. She shook her head and lay back down.
"This is SO not cool," she said quietly.
The picture that she had in her hand was now tossed to the side of the bed. She picked it up and studied it once more.
"And I fucking wonder why I can't sleep."
But she refused to set it down. She rolled over to her side and willed for a peaceful sleep to come to her.
Take back that sad word goodbye
Bring back the joy to my life
Don't leave me here with these tears
Come and kiss this pain away
I can't forget the day you left
Time is so unkind
And life is so cruel
Without you here beside me
He watched her from the doorframe and took in a deep breath. He had waited for so long for this moment and he now wished that he had taken this first step two years ago. It never should have gone this far.
He walked slowly over to her and crouched in front of the bed, her back was to him and he slowly brushed the hair away from her shoulder. She continued to sleep, her breaths were deep and even. He narrowed his eyes and wondered when the last time she had a decent night's sleep. His eyes roamed down her body and he closed them briefly. She was thin, too thin, she looked like she could break.
He placed a kiss on her shoulder and slowly kissed his way up to her neck. A low moan escaped her lips, but she continued to remain asleep. He stood and bent over her and kissed her lips softly as another moan emitted from her, as well as a sleepy smile.
"Oh, Johnny," she sighed happily.
He stood up fully and narrowed his eyes down at her and she began to laugh. He shook his head and began to tickle her sides.
"No! Don't I'm sorry!" She screamed hysterically.
"Shhh, Carly, you'll wake up Michael."
She continued to laugh. "Then stop tickling me!"
He stopped and she opened one eye, the smile still plastered on her face. "You're not Johnny."
He shook his head at her. "You want me to go get him?"
She opened the other eye and pretended to think. "No, I guess you'll do."
He couldn't help it and smiled down at her. "I missed you."
A tear escaped and she closed her eyes again. "Please don't make me cry. I've been doing that for way too long."
He sat on the edge of the bed and tucked a strand of hair away from her face. "Carly, don't take this the wrong way, but you look bad."
She chuckled softly and she opened her eyes again. "You always knew what to say to a girl, Jase."
He cocked his head to the side and he smiled sadly at her. "If I would of known --"
"No, don't." She sat up and threw her legs over the side of the bed and scooted over so that she sat next to him. "I look that bad," she frowned.
"You look like you haven't ate or slept in a long time."
She nodded and bit her lip. "Something like that."
"I'm sorry it took me so long to get here."
"You're here and that's what matters now, Jason."
Unbreak my heart
Say you'll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life
Uncry these tears
I cried so many nights
Unbreak my heart, my heart
She looked at him and their eyes locked. "Come here," he whispered.
Jason opened his arms and she fell into his embrace. He rested his chin on top of her head as he ran his hand up and down her back.
"I want you to know, Carly, that I'm here and I always will be."
"I know," she whispered. She sat up again and brushed back the tears. "I was scared, Jase."
He smoothed back her hair and looked at her. "Of what?"
She took in a deep breath and let it out. "That you were gonna tell me that what happened in Martinique was a mistake."
Jason shook his head at her. "The only mistake is that it took me that long to go to you." He searched her face for a moment and then smiled at her. "Thank you."
"For what?" she asked curiously.
"For giving me that extra time with Michael."
She shook her head. "You don't need to thank me for that, Jase. You both needed it, to be together."
He leaned down and kissed her softly. "Does he suspect anything?"
"No, he already had the divorce papers drawn up."
"It shouldn't be that long then."
Carly bit her bottom lip and smiled. "No, thank God."
"Michael doing okay?"
"Yeah, he's just like his mom -- a master at keeping secrets."
Jason chuckled softly. "If you say so."
"It's true," she laughed.
He stared at her for a moment. "I missed you," he repeated quietly.
"I know."
"No more, Carly. We're together now and no one can tear us apart again. No more secrets, no more lies, no more hurting."
She ran her fingers down his face and kissed him softly. "Welcome home, Jason."
Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Bring back the nights
When I held you beside me
He smiled at her and they began to kiss again, this time more urgently. Like two lovers that had been separated for a lifetime. They fell back against the bed and Carly groaned at the welcome weight covering her body. Jason ran his hands down her sides, reacquainting himself with her body. Carly pressed her hips into his pelvis and that caused a low moan to escape from Jason. His right hand slipped underneath her tank top, but the low ringing from his cell caused them both to stop. Jason pressed his forehead to hers and sighed.
"Sorry," he said quietly.
"It's okay," she smiled as she ran her hand down his arm. "You can go in the bathroom or I can leave if you --"
He shook his head at her. "Don't even think about it."
Jason kissed her forehead and grabbed his cell from the back pocket of his jeans.
"Morgan," he answered. His eyes traveled to Carly when he heard the familiar voice. "Sonny, hey man, anything wrong?" He paused for a second. "No, I haven't talked to her. You said her and Michael were happy and I don't wanna fuck that up." Jason paused again and his eyes closed at the response. He cleared his throat slightly. "No kidding? Yeah . . . Yeah okay. I'll check in with you in a few weeks then. Later."
He ended the call and Carly placed her hand on his shoulder. "Jase?"
He shook his head slowly. "It --" he looked at her then. "It just kills me, knowing that he fucking lies to me like that. If I hadn't gotten that call from Johnny, I never would of known."
Carly ran her fingers through the short hairs at the nape of his neck. "Jase, you couldn't of known. You know that Johnny couldn't get a hold of you after Sonny was arrested, but as soon as he could he did. The important thing is that you were there, Jase and I can't tell you how happy it made me to see your face when I got to Martinique. It made me remember and it made me realize that no matter how much I tried, I could never love Sonny like I love you. You're it for me, Jase."
Jason smiled at her. "And you're it for me."
"And you took your sweet ass time figuring that out too, huh?" she teased.
He chuckled softly and laced their fingers together. "Do you care if I check in on Michael for a second?"
She smiled softly at him and squeezed his hand. "Jase, you wouldn't be you if you didn't. You're the only other person that loves him like I do."
Jason kissed her again and got off the bed. "I'll be right back."
He reached the door and before he could turn the knob, he turned back to her.
"It's the room across the hall, two doors down," she said.
"I woulda figured it out," he smirked.
"Go!" she laughed.
He left the room and Carly fell back on the bed, her arms spread over her head and the biggest smiled plastered on her face. She couldn't help it and began to laugh softly.
"I don't care if I'm insane, he's home," she laughed.
Unbreak my heart
Say you'll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life
Uncry these tears
I cried so many many nights
Unbreak my
Jason quietly walked into Michael's room and stood over his bed. Both of his eyebrows went up and the same thought that occurred to Carly came to him.
How the hell did he get so big?
He watched him breath evenly and smiled as Michael's eyes began to flutter open.
"Hey, buddy, I didn't mean to wake you up," he said quietly.
"Daddy?" he asked sleepily.
Jason kneeled in front of the bed. "Yeah, it's me, Michael," he told him as he swept the hair out of his eyes.
Michael rubbed his eyes and sat up. "Daddy!" he shouted as he launched himself into Jason's arms, realizing that he really was there in the room.
Jason chuckled softly and hugged him back. Michael continued to hug him, holding onto him as tightly as possible, so much so that he had a fistful of Jason's shirt in his hands. All that Jason could do is close his eyes to stop the tears from falling.
"I missed you, Michael."
Michael sniffed loudly and nodded his head against Jason's shoulder. Jason began to think of all the time that he had missed with his son. That all three of them had missed out on being together. Although it had only been a few weeks, he missed Michael tremendously. Jason finally pulled back and he wiped away the tears that had fallen from Michael's eyes. Michael smiled at Jason and returned the gesture.
"You cried too?"
"Yeah," Jason whispered. "I cried too."
Michael patted his cheek and smiled at him. "It's okay, daddy. We're all together now."
"Yeah, we are, aren't we?"
"Can I tell everyone our secret now?" Michael asked excitedly.
Jason shook his head and chuckled softly. "You're just like your mom."
Michael wrinkled his nose at that. "Mommy's a girl. I wanna be like you."
"Don't let your mom hear that," he smiled.
"So can I tell?" he asked again.
"Not yet. We gotta get some stuff together first and then you can tell everyone."
"Even Uncle Luke?"
"Especially Uncle Luke."
Michael grinned at that. "Are we gonna move again?"
Jason tilted his head to the side. "I don't know yet, buddy. Do you wanna move?"
Michael shrugged his shoulders. "Don't care."
"Okay, we'll talk to your mom about it tomorrow, but you gotta go back to sleep now."
Michael rolled his eyes. "I can't sleep now, I wanna hang out with you."
"Sorry, Michael, I gotta hang out with your mom now."
He sighed unhappily. "Come on, daddy," he tried. Jason merely raised his eyebrows at him. "Okay," he conceded. "You be here in the morning?"
"Yeah," Jason whispered.
Michael nodded his head as he lay back down and his eyes drifted back shut.
"Night, buddy."
"Night," he mumbled already half asleep.
Unbreak my heart, oh baby
Come back and say you love me
Unbreak my heart sweet darlin'
Without you I just can't go on
Can't go on
Jason walked back into Carly's room and stopped in his tracks as he saw her fast asleep, the light snoring giving her away. He smiled at her as he slowly made his way towards the bed. Her chest rose and fell evenly and he noticed the picture that was clutched in her hand on top of her stomach. Jason sat next to her on the bed careful not to wake her, she needed all the sleep she could get after all. He gently slipped the picture from her hand and sighed deeply when he looked at it -- the three of them in Martinique.
Jason placed the picture on the nightstand and lay next to her. Almost immediately she scooted closer to him, placing her head on his chest and her right arm splayed across his stomach. He kissed the top of her head and wrapped an arm around her waist and closed his eyes as well. He hadn't realized how tired he was until now. He began to rub Carly's back with his hand just enjoying the feel of her in his arms.
This is what they both had been fighting so hard for. The simple feel of just being together in moments like this.
A few seconds later Carly stirred in his arms and quickly propped herself up on her elbow staring down at him. Jason's eyes continued to remain closed, but a slow smile began to spread across his face.
"You really think you're gonna sleep tonight?" she asked with a smile of her own.
Jason kept his eyes closed and simply nodded his head.
"You're just as insane as I am if you think that," she teased.
He nodded his head again.
"It's been five weeks, Jase. Five long and torturous weeks. You're not sleeping."
He nodded once more.
"Didya lock the door?"
His smile grew even more and he continued to nod.
Carly began to laugh as she broke away from his embrace and straddled his lap. That movement caused his eyes to open quickly.
"I thought you were gonna sleep?" she said as she flicked an eyebrow at him.
"I'm up now," he answered.
She began to laugh even harder as she felt him twitch underneath her. "You're such a guy," she told him as she bent down and kissed him.
He began to rub her thighs lightly and kissed her in return. Carly pulled back and Jason flipped them over so that he was on top of her. He pulled his head back slightly and they locked eyes.
Say that you love me
Say that you love me
Tell me you love me
Unbreak my
"I love you, Carly," he whispered.
She smiled brightly at him. "I love you too, Jason. Always and forever."
