Young Men's FanciesAcknowledgements
It is difficult to verbalize how much I owe to the friends who beta-read, encouraged, petted, sympathized, brainstormed, cautioned, questioned, proofread, and generally did huge hunks of the work with me.
An embarrassing amount of the series would not exist at all were it not for Animasola saying, "I bet you could have Jim..." and we'd be off in a new direction. In fact, this started as a single, woefully undeveloped story, and it was Anima who first said, "Tell more about that kiss," and the next thing I knew there was more about the kiss, more about the farm, more about Jim's fantasies, and ... OK, I admitted, there was too much for one story. And I don't think there is one part of it now that does not contain ideas she gave me.
Islaofhope was noble to read so much hetsmut when she doesn't really like it; she knows San Francisco, which I don't, and helped me with everything from muni routes to the weather to the relative positions of Starfleet Academy and other sites in town. And she was the one who first created Lillian, though she was kind enough to lend her to me. (Her story is "The Ermine Violin.") She has even been to the Metreon; all I had to go on were websites though their online virtual tour was very helpful.
T'Aaneli has the world's best virtual red pencil and warns me when I get a little camp. Rabble Rouser keeps me honest with canon when I am inclined to stray. Both are especially helpful at finding the bits of the story where I was so excited about my own ideas that I didn't show enough, or the bits where I felt uncertain and tried to tell too much.
Love and thanks to all of you.
