"JAVA" with Emigrants to the Colony of South Australia arriving in
Holdfast Bay on February 6th 1840, with the Sad Loss of Life of many
Children and Adults during the Voyage; of the continued Suffering of the
Passengers; of the Concern of the Citizens of the Colony and the Disgust
of the Governor Gawler and of the Subsequent Enquiry. The book also tells
us of the Last of the East Indiamen, its Last Years as a Coal Hulk in
Gibraltar and of its Final Voyage to the Breakers in Genoa in July of
1939.
This book
is dedicated to the memory of my late father, Laurence
Michael Barnett, soldier, merchant navy sailor and writer, who left to his
children, the legacy of the desire to be communicators, and to my mother
Dorothy, for her care and love to us all through the years.
