Off the set of the BDSSP, FOXSports.com recently caught up with Late, Late Show host Craig Kilborn to talk about basketball, sportscasting and his best and worst guests.
FOXSports.com: Is it true that Tom Arnold is the favorite guest of The Late Late Show, and if so, why?
Craig Kilborn: He's one of the favorites, 'cause he's always there for us. Works hard. He'll do anything to get the laugh. He's good people. Uh... oh I'm sorry, I was thinking of John Salley. Uh, yeah, Tom Arnold is good! He's funny. I think he's really funny.
FS: What were your best and worst interviews ever?
CK: Kruk... is the best and Kruk is the worst. No, ah let's see. I had a bad one with Robbie Knievel. He was drunk. But that was kinda fun in retrospect. And then, Vince Vaughn, Bill Murray, Ben Affleck--those guys have been good.
FS: Who's the greatest Yambo champion you've ever seen and who was just shell-shocked?
CK: I thought Jonathan Lipnicki did well. I thought he was going to be shell-shocked, but he did pretty well. He answered the question "Do you like gum?" and he said, "Yes." That was pretty good. Let's see... Al Franken was good and Ben Stein was good. They did battle in something called "Franken-Stein." It was pretty good.
FS: Who's cheated the most at Five Questions?
CK: I can't tell you that. Some of them are pretty fearful of Five Questions though.
FS: Do you ever long for the crisp winter nights of beautiful Bristol, Connecticut?
CK: No.
D'Marco Farr (walking by): He's very tall.
FS: Six-foot-four?
CK: Muscular 6-5. I can play 5-11 though. No, I don't miss Bristol. I had moved from Carmel, California and I was there. I met some nice people and it was a nice gig, but the area did not suit me at that time.
FS: How about sportscasting, do you ever miss that?
CK: No. I like pro basketball, but that's about it.
FS: You had that "nice gig" at ESPN, but while you were there did you have a feeling that there was something more for the Craiggers?
CK: Yeah, I thought there might be something else. I was only into pro basketball, but SportsCenter was a big deal so it was fun doing it. But I wanted to do something else.
FS: What's the greatest sports movie of all time?
CK: One on one. Robbie Benson.
FS: Can white men jump?
CK: Tommy Chambers could jump. Gus Gerard from the ABA could jump. Rex Chapman. That's about it.
