| Craig Kilborn is known for putting his celebrity guests on the hot seat for "Five Questions" on CBS' The Late, Late Show. This week, though, Kilborn, 41, was the one under pressure as he got a George Plimpton-esque tryout with the Minnesota Timberwolves at their NBA training camp. A fan of the T'wolves, Kilborn also is a fan of his own jump shot, regularly showing clips of his form on the show. Kilborn, a native of Minnesota and former bench player at Montan State, was challenged by coach Flip Saunders to take part in the team's two-a-day workouts Monday and Tuesday. "I had two goals going in," Kilborn said Tuesday before playing in a public scrimmage. "Not to get hurt and to make a nice pass." Kilborn was 2-for-2. Recounting his fondest moment from the workout, Kilborn said that during a 3-on-2 drill, he filled the left lane as point guard Sam Cassell led the break with superstar forward Kevin Garnett on the wing. Cassell passed to Kilborn, who pulled off a no-look, one-hand touch pass to Garnett, who finished with a dunk. "(Minnesota GM) Kevin McHale came running on the court to give me a high-five," said Kilborn, who made a toast to "The Pass" while having beers with some players, including Wally Szczerbiak and Mark Madsen. The talk show host said Garnett gave him some advice: "KG took me aside before the first practice and told me to 'play hard, don't be afraid to take breaks and, whatever you do, don't throw up on the court.'" Kilborn, who didn't throw up, said it was special to spend time with is favorite team. One treat was playing a game of H-O-R-S-E with Garnett: "I got him to R, but he beat me. I'm such a big fan I didn't want to mess with his psyche or get in his mind. I wanted to build his confidence for the season." |
