LOS ANGELES-- "Late Late Show" host Craig Kilborn has been tapped to host the third annual TV Guide Awards, Janice Kaplin, executive producer of TV Guide Television, announced on Monday. In addition, Martin Sheen, Bette Midler, Debra Messing, Molly Shannon and others will be making an appearance at the awards ceremony whose winners are chosen by over 30 million fans through TV Guide magazine and TV Guide Online.
"Craig Kilborn is a terrific host and his humor is just the right mix of edgy, smart, and fun--the tone of this year's show," Kaplin said. "We know that Craig's intelligence and wit will help us deliver a great show."
In 1993, Kilborn began as a host on ESPN's "SportsCenter," moving on to Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" from 1996-98. In March 1999, he was named as Tom Snyder's successor on "The Late Late Show," where he has slowly become known for his arrogant, yet self-mocking, style of comedy.
"My job is simple--make sure the TV Guide Awards do not run over into the Oscars. I have a three-week cushion, so I believe I am up to the challenge," said Kilborn.
The ceremony will take place Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Shrine Expo Center in downtown Los Angeles, and air on FOX Wednesday, March 7 at 8 p.m. EST. |
