Letter from the Guest Editor
When I was approached to be the guest editor for Gear, I was excited.  I had been a fan since American Gigolo.  Then I was told it wasn't spelled G-E-R-E.  Crestfallen, I weighed my options: 1) Start a Richard Gere fanzine.  Or 2) accept the daunting responsibility of guest editing Gear's third Anniversary issue.

I did both.  (Look for the new
Gere, summer 2002.)

As far as this
Gear, what a honor to lead a young staff of jounalists and show 'em how the big boys do it.  Will this change magazines as we know them?  No.  That's not what I'm trying to do.

All I want is to somehow convey my philosophy, my belief system and yeah, I'll say it, my dreams.

This is not easy to put into words.

It has something to do with Dido and crumbled bleu cheese.  Shatner in a sweater and Costas in a cape, my crush on Rachel Ward and my love affair with Bordeaux, it's Clint Eastwood the comedian and Garry Shandling the sex symbol.  You see where we're going here?  I think you do.  And in the end, you'll realize the foundation of my philosophy is built on a love of people.

So this is not
my issue, but our issue.

That's not me on the cover with three supermodels, that's you.  Wasn't that a great day?

Proud,
