James Bay ArtWalk

Twenty-three artists at 15 locations in beautiful James Bay, the community where Emily Carr lived and painted, will hold an ArtWalk studio tour including Emily's home, on September 23rd and 24th from 11 till 4. There will be sculpture, textiles, etchings, wood carvings, photography, and many stunning paintings on display and for sale. Maps can be picked up at James Bay businesses and the local James Bay Market held Saturdays at Superior and Menzies. See our poster for other sponsors. The map will also be featured in the centre spread of the September issue of the James Bay Beacon community newspaper. Be sure to watch for "the walking palette"! Tania Bourne Tania Viesulas Bourne works in watercolour, acrylic and mixed media. Her paintings are rich and vibrant, a dance of colour and light, motion and emotion. In addition to original work, Tania will be showing giclee reproductions, prints and art cards.

Kirsten Brand "As a native born Victorian, I succumbed early to the beauty of the nature around me and have been continuously inspired to explore west coast imagery in a variety of forms and mediums."

Kay Davies Kay Davies works in watercolur, collage, and India ink and has recently added acrylics to her portfolio. Kay loves to let the paint flow, even in some acrylics, allowing the paint to direct the subject matter of the piece. Much of her work is semi abstract, most in vibrant warm colours.

Donna Eichel Donna Eichel's abstract painting is informed by her interest in the passage of time and it's reflection in the detritus of machinery and construction. Donna is represented in commercial, public and private collections throughout Canada.

Bonnie Laird Bonnie Laird graduated in 1990 with a BFA fromthe University of Alberta, majoring in painting and printmaking. Her work is mostly figurative, and she focuses especially on gritty depictions of industrial workers and evocative figures from her family's past. Working in oils, Bonnie uses rich and saturated colours, applied thickly, to add texture and character, and reinforce the mood of each piece.

Doug Leitch Douglas is a fabric artist creating wearable art, incorporating textures and patterns from Chinese silk or brocade. Beginning with a garment, he hand attaches a variety of “found fabrics.” |

Angela Lee McIntyre Angela Lee McIntyre graduated from Emily Carr College of Art & Design in Vancouver, B.C. with a 4-year fine arts diploma in photography and film-making in 1982. Now she is an abstract painter. Her dynamic acrylic work explores colours, textures and structures of experience. |

Eleanor Paine Eleanor and Tony both say their art is their passion. Eleanor gets all her inspiration from nature. When Tony paints he becomes part of the painting and it part of him—-there is no separation. Eleanor and Tony met at the University of Birmingham and have spent a lifetime of 40 years painting together. |

Marketa Peterka Marketa, a BFA grad having studied in Prague, Vancouver, Mexico and Russian, is a painter. Winner of national competitions in the Czech Republic, her work is in private collections all over Europe. |

Sandra Ritter Although known for her coastal watercolours and oils, Sandra also works in an unusual combination of metallic acrylics and oil. Her studio is on her floathome at Victoria's Fisherman's Wharf.

Dale Roberts Dale Roberts received his MFA in Sculpture at the State University of New York in 1995. As a sculptor of stone and fibre, Dale uses his maritime roots (a Newfoundlander) as a source of inspiration in the forms that he creates. Dale will be demonstrating stone carving and finished works at the ArtWalk again this year. |
