Write On!

                                    Orville Wright    Wilbur Wright

Our class participated in a  collaborative Internet project designed by coordinators, Susan Silverman and Linda Brandon, to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the Wright Brothers' phenomenal flight on December 17, 1903.

During this project we read many books about the Wright Brothers.  Two of our favorite books were:

My Brother's Flying Machine: Orville, Wilbur and Me  by Jane Yolen

First to Fly: How Wilbur and Orville Wright Invented the Airplane

by Peter Busby

We also viewed the video Magic School Bus Taking Flight.

There are also many wonderful websites available for students

to research   the Wright Brothers.

*"To Fly Is Everything"  A Virtual Museum Covering the Invention of the Airplane

*Brain Pop~ Flight

*Forces of Flight

*Off to a Flying Start

*Sights and Sounds: US Centennial of Flight Commission

     This is a must see!

*Document Based Questions about the First Flight Telegram

After you research the life of the Wright Brothers, take a quiz to see how much you have learned!

Students also designed and created paper airplanes to fly!
