Your true Canonical name:
Convert your own name into one
that seems to come straight out of a Sherlock Holmes case

You may have have an alias in a Sherlock Holmes online discussion area or in a Sherlockian organization somewhere in the world, but have you ever wondered about your TRUE Canonical identity?
Consider: If you had been born as a character in the Sherlock Holmes Canon, who would you have been? At last, you have a way of getting a glimmer of the might-have-been. Your own name is the key for constructing your own TRUE CANONICAL NAME in this little waste-of-time exercise, based rather uncreatively on a children's name-generator now circulating on the Web.

Use the LAST TWO letters of your FIRST name to determine the TITLE you command for your NEW Canonical name:
Same consonant = Baron / Baroness
Different consonants = Sir / Lady
Same vowel = Count / Countess
Different vowel = Duke / Duchess
Consonant, then vowel = Captain / Governess
Vowel, then consonant = Inspector / Adventuress

Use the FIRST letter of your FIRST name to determine the FIRST half of your NEW Canonical FIRST name:
a = Alice / Adelbert
b = Beatrice / Beppo
c = Clotilde / Cyril
d = Elise / Diogenes
e = Effie / Enoch
f = Francis / Fitzroy
g = Helen / Grimsby
h = Hilda / Henry
i = Irene / Culverton
j = Julia / Jabez
k = Kitty / Basil
l = Lucy / Lysander
m = Martha / Mycroft
n = Nancy /Neville
o = Maggie / Morse
p = Beryl / Percy
q = Sarah / Eustace
r = Rachel / Horace
s = Susan / Sebastian
t = Theresa / Thornycroft
u = Lucrecia / Tobias
v = Violet / Valentine
w = Brenda / Wilhelm
x = Hatty / Stanley
y = Elsie / Athelny
z = Anna / Arthur

Use the FIRST letter of your LAST name to dertermine the FIRST half of your NEW Canonical LAST name:
a = Adler
b = Brunton
c = Coram
d = DeMerville
e = Cubitt
f = Fraser
g = Gibson
h = Huxtable
i = Hatherly
j = Crocker
k = Conan
l = Langdale
m = Melas
n = Nigretto
o = Openshaw
p = Phelps
q = Pike
r = Roylott
s = Sigismond
t = Trelawny
u = Brackenstall
v = Stangerson
w = Westbury
x = Walter
y = Yoxley
z = Sutherland

Use the LAST letter of your LAST name to dertermine the SECOND half of your NEW Canonical LAST name:
a = Angel
b = (von) Bork
c = St. Clair
d = Drebber
e = Norton
f = Fournaye
g = Gregson
h = Hope
i = Heidigger
j = Jones
k = Kemp
l = Latimer
m = Murillo
n = Moran
o = (von) Ormstein
p = Perkins
q = Lucas
r = Rucastle
s = Saxe-Menigen
t = Trevelyan
u = Tregennis
v = Sandeford
w = Worthington
x = Blessington
y = Sylvius
z = Slaney

Capitalize letters and insert hyphens as necessary. Second and third segments may be used to form compound names (as in "Conan Doyle"). Insert "von" where applicable.
Thus, for example, John Sherwood's new Canonical name is "Sir Jabez Sigismond Drebber"
George W. Bush's new Canonical name is "Capt. Grimsby Brunton-Hope"
and Al(bert) Gore's new Canonical name is "Sir Adelbert Gibson Norton"
If you're so disposed, send this link to your Sherlockian friends with your new Canonical name in the subject line, and invite them to pass this less-than-Grand Game on to others who may (or may not) be amused. The more time we all waste, the less trouble we will all get into.
