1. To keep egg yolks fresh and stop them from drying out cover them with cold water.
2. Sprinkle sugar on merangue and it will cut easier.
3. If soup is too salty place slices of raw potatoe in it.
4. Eggs tarnish silver.
5. Soak bacon in cold water a few minutes before frying. I will help curb shrinking and curling.
6. To keep lemons in perfect condition for weeks, fill quart mason jar with lemons, cover with water and screw lid on tightly.
7. To prevent bottom of pie crust from becoming soggy brush with egg whites before adding filling.
8. When making pie crust always use ice water and slightly freeze shortening before cutting it into the flour.
9. Boil sausage before you cook it and it won't cause the coals in your bar b que pit to flare up and burn them.

The many uses of vinegar:
  • Better Beans: Add 2 teaspoons of vinegar to the pot when cooking dried beans. It will make them tender and easier on the digestive system,thus producing less stomach gas.
  • Better Doughnuts:To keep homemade doughnuts from becoming soggy, add a tablespoon of vinegar to the frying fat. The vinegar keeps the doughnuts from becoming greasy.
  • Easy-Cut Gelatin: Add 1 tablespoon vinegar to each package of gelatin. It improves the texture and makes it easier to cut.
  • Perk up Canned Food: Add a teaspoon of red wine vinegar to canned gravy, soup, or sauces. The vinegar adds flavor and makes the canned food taste fresher.
  • Better Eggs:When boiling eggs, add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar per quart of water before boiling. This will prevent cracking and the shells will peel off faster and more easily.
  • Fluffy Rice:To make white rice fluffy and less sticky, add 1 teaspoon of white distilled or rice vinegar to the boiling water.
  • Moist Cake:To make any homemade or boxed chocolate cake recipe moist and fluffier, add a spoonful of vinegar to the dry ingredients. you'll be amazed at the difference.
  • Meat Tenderizer:Meat fibers are broken down and tenderized by vinegar. Less expensive,lean cuts of meat can be used in most recipes without sacrificing flavor. Soak the meat in vinegar overnight, if desired rinse off the vinegar before cooking.
  • Fried Foods:Make fried foods taste less greasy by adding a tablespoon of vinegar to the pan or deep fryer before adding the oil.
  • Dish too Salty? If you add too much salt to a recipe, don't toss it out: add a teaspoon of cider vinegar and a teaspoon of sugar to eliminate the salty taste.
  • Too Much Sugar?If you add too much sugar to a main dish or vegetable recipe add a teaspoon of cider vinegar to save the dish.
  • Perfect Meringue: Add vinegar to the egg whites. Add 1/2 teaspoon vinegar to every 3 egg whites used. Your meringue will be fluffy, yet stable.
  • Shiny Frosting: Add 1/2 teaspoon vinegar to hamemade frosting to make the texture soft and creamy. White frosting will look very white and shiny.
  • Save wilted vegetables:To revive wilted vegetables, quickly dunk them in hot tap water, then place them in a bowl of ice water with a tablespoon of cider or white vinegar.
  • Spaghetti-sauce-Flavor Booster: Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to home made or store-bought spaghetti sauce to improve the flavor.

Cleaning

1. Mix olive oil and salt into thin paste to remove white stains on furniture.
2. To remove candle wax stains scrape off excess wax, place fabric between white blotters and press with a hot iron. Wash in hot suds. If stain persistes rub with cold turpentine and wash again in warm suds.
3. To remove coffee or tea stains stretch fabric taut over a bowl. Pour boiling water through stain from a height of 3 or 4 feet. Wash in hot suds. (Same thing with berry stains.)
4. To get rid of the smell that onions and other foods that leave an odor in plastic containers or glass jars simply wash in hot soapy water, dry and place a paper towel or crumpled up newspaper in the container. Seal it and the paper will rid the container of the smell.
5. If you want to have soft cookies the day after you bake them, place a piece of bread in the container with the cookies. This will moisten them nicely.
6. If you use steel wool pads, like I do, cut them in fourths and you'll have just enough for those small jobs around the house.
