Jerusalem is left desolate unable to bear children (spiritual birth). Jesus telling them he wont return Until they believe. "ye shall not see me henceforth till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord."

Matthew 23:37-39:Oh Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chicks under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, ye shall not see me henceforth till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Israel is Travailing with child, she is the married wife and before Christ came all the Gentiles were desolate but now have found god as it says "and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles"

More are the children of the desolate (the Gentiles) than the children of the married wife.

Isa:49:21: Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been.

Micah:7:11: In the day that thy walls are to be built, in that day shall the decree be far removed.12: In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.13: Notwithstanding the land shall be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.

Amos:9:11: In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: 12: That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.13: Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt. 14: And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 15: And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
