My mom and Meeka

Everyone give a warm welcome to Meeka!

Meeka (Khanzade's Autumn Queen) came to us from Atlanta, Georgia. She is 4 years old and has quite a hard life, till now. Her old owner had a stroke at age 38, and she was found with Meeka and another dog laying by her. Meeka then went to live with her breeders (Bruce and Katie Averill), but because they had a lot of dogs already, she had to live in their kennel with all the show dogs. They were trying to find her a good home when they heard of us! We were searching for another dog, since our loss of Caesar. My mom wanted a Borzoi, since we had one before and she prefered an adult. My mom and Bruce and Katie started to communicate through emails and we decided that we would really like to have Meeka, then known as Queenie. So preparations were made to get Meeka from Atlanta to Granger. A big 'thank you' goes out to Dennis Badke, he brought home Queenie (Meeka) on May 29th!(As a side note-Dennis and Andrea Badke own and breed Borzoi and I have constructed a website for them it is FoxWood Borzoi. I would check it out, it is very nice, if I do say so myself! (Currently it is still under construction, but visitable of course!)

Since she lived in a kennel for several months before coming here, she has to remember how to relax in a house. She sure remembers what 'people food' is though! I gave her a lick of a popsicle and she took it from me. She is a bit shy, but she is really a sweet dog. She is stingy with her 'kisses' though, so if you get one you had better treasure it!

Meeka has now been with us for a few years now and has realized that this is her home, forever. She is always surprising us with things that make her look more like a DOG. You have to know Meeka to understand. One thing for sure, she LOVES to go for car rides. Since she is a bit shy we try to take her as many places as we can so she makes lots of trips to PetsMart and Pet Supplies Plus.

People around here sure haven't seen many Borzois because she has been called a greyhound, a collie, saluki, afghan, even a dalmation (yep, don't ask me why). I will be updating this page as often as I can with new news and pictures, so be sure to check back!
