531454. WILLIAM ATLA ROOF, was born in Standing Stone, Pennsylvania. At the time of his death he lived in Myersburg, Pennsylvania. He died in the afternoon at Memorial Hospital in Towanda, Pennsylvania, following a short illness. The funeral service was held at the Archer-Miller-McCloskey Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, Towanda, Pennsylvania. The Rev. Harry Ferguson, pastor of the Wysox Presbyterian Church officiated. The pallbearers were some of his grandsons, Calvin, Gary, and Rusty Eddy, Jim and Rick Moore, Mark and Mike Roof, and Bob Weed, his grandson-in-law.
He attended the Oak Grove and Keene Summit Schools. After leaving school, ATLA ROOF was employed at the Sayre Shops for seven years. He then left the shops to return to the family farm. He finally left farm work to work for the Towanda Borough. ATLA ROOF worked for the Towanda Borough for 21 years serving as a foreman on the borough crew. He drove the first motorized dump truck that was owned by the borough, a fact in which he took great pride. He left the borough and returned to farming once more in Standing Stone. Eventually he went to work for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a carpenter. ATLA ROOF worked on bridge forms for many years, finally retiring in 1963. Until his health began to fail, ATLA ROOF served as a janitor at the Wysox Fire Hall. On August 29, 1923, ATLA ROOF married LAURA EUGENIA WERKHEISER in Towanda, Pennsylvania.
LAURA EUGENIA WERKHEISER was born and raised in Potterville, Pennsylvania. She died at home in Myersburg, Pennsylvania, after a extended illness. She had diabetes for several years with complications, including ulcers on her legs and also had problems with vertebrae in her back. Funeral services were held at the Archer/McClosky Funeral Home in Towanda, Pennsylvania with the Rev. Harry Ferguson officiating. Pallbearers, who all were her grandsons, were Calvin Eddy, Gary Eddy, George Eddy, Jr., James Moore, Thomas Roof, and William Roof.
EUGENIA WERKHEISER went to school in Potterville, Pennsylvania. On the family farm she raised chickens. EUGENIA WERKHEISER was a very fine ice skater in her younger years. Always skating on Cook Pond in Potterville, Pennsylvania. She always told stories to her family and loved to go for long rides on the back roads of Pennsylvania. EUGENIA WERKHEISER was a wonderful cook. Always making a large meal on Sunday for all of her family to enjoy. EUGENIA WERKHEISER loved children. When her own children were grown she started baby sitting for her grandchildren. There was always family around. ATLA ROOF and EUGENIA WERKHIESER are both buried in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox, Pennsylvania. ATLA ROOF and EUGENIA WERKHEISER had eight children:
5314541. EUNICE CATHERINE ROOF (6/23/1924-12/23/2003) has been in the Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit since 1994 after suffering a stroke. She also had several heart attacks, diabetes, dementia, and breast cancer. Finally she got pneumonia. She died there in the evening. The viewing was at the Maryott/Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was at the Wysox Church, Wysox, Pennsylvania with her pastor Rev. Roger Griffith officiating. Internment was in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox, Pennsylvania. The pallbearers were: Rick Moore, Mark Roof, Jack, Gary, and Kirk Eddy, and Ryan Maghamez. EUNICE ROOF was born at the farm on Harmony Hill. She grew up in East Towanda and the Standing Stone area. EUNICE ROOF went to school at a one room school in East Towanda, and then on to Towanda High School.
On October 19, 1943 EUNICE ROOF married Charles Sterling Johnson (7/28/1923-12/20/1950). They were married at the Presbyterian parsonage in Waverly, New York, by the Rev. Thomas Tighe. Sterling was killed in an automobile accident in Utah, trying to get home before he was shipped out to Korea. He hitched a ride with two other soldiers when the one driving lost control of the car and hit a underpass. Sterling is buried in the Bradford County Memorial Cemetery in Luther Mills, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
EUNICE ROOF JOHNSON started working at different places in Towanda. She worked at the Berlinger Silk Mill, the Greyhound Bus Station in East Towanda (now Moore's Used Car Lot), and Hesselor's Laundry on Popular Street in Towanda. She then went on to work for Betty and Don Reuter, taking care of their children and cleaning their home for over twenty-five years. She also worked for Jane and Andrew Duvall for many, many years.
EUNICE JOHNSON married REX JEROME EDDY (3/23/1916-5/7/1987) on March 5, 1956. They were married in Frederick, Maryland at the Calvary Methodist Church, by Rev. E. William Hall. The church was located on 131 North Second Street.
EUNICE EDDY was a member of the Wysox Presbyterian Church, the Towanda Gun Club, and loved fast sharp looking cars and country music. EUNICE EDDY also enjoyed shopping, camping, and partying. EUNICE EDDY and REX EDDY had one daughter:

On April 29, 1967 he received the Purple Heart in Yokohama, Japan. He was convalescing there at Kishine Barracks after receiving wounds in action while serving as a rifleman in Company C, 2d Battalion, 35th Infantry, 25th Infantry Diviision.

53145423. Calvin Duane Eddy married Gerry Patterson on August 4, 1973 at the SS. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda, Pennsylvaina, by Rev. Patrick Heffron. On February 22, 1982 the weekend snowfall prompted the Patterson, Eddy, and Anderson (nighbors) families of Towanda, Pennsylvania to construct an 11-foot-tall snowman on upper Plank Road. They divorced in October of 1985. Calvin and Gerry had two sons:

5314543. Charles William Roof (3/13/1928-10/3/1983) was born in Nichols, New York. He died in the evening at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pennsylvania, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The viewing was at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda, Pennsylvania. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the SS. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda, Pennsylvania, with the Rev. Thomas A. Flynn, celebrant. The pallbearers were: Elwood Rogers, Eugene Buffington, John Miller, Joseph LeStrange, Joseph Steitzer, Norman Stephenson, Jerome O'Keefe, and Robert Greenough. The cross bearer was Chris Headings with acolytes, Joseph Dunn and Anthony Tama. Internment was in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pennsylvania, with the flag folded and presented by Harold Smith and Jack Remsynder.
Charles Roof attended the Towanda schools and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. In February of 1951, he married Sally E. Wood. Sally is the daughter of Reed and Faye Shay Wood of Towanda, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
Following his discharge from the Army in 1947, he began his employment with Towanda Borough. In 1955, he was appointed Towanda Borough Foreman, a position he maintained until his death. His life was devoted to community affairs for the betterment of the Towanda area. He will be remembered for his kindness and courtesies shown toward others and his willingness to give of himself.
He was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Church, a trustee and past president of the Franklin Steam Engine Company #1, fire chief in 1964-65, member of the Towanda Gun Club, American Legion Post #42, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1367, and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #2191 Towanda and served as Exalted Ruler for 1982-83. The new Franklin Engine Company Pumper Truck was dedicated this year in Charles Roof's name. Charles and Sally have five children:

He then went to Broome Community College graduating in 1972 and then on to Sylvania Technical School and graduated there in 1976. Jim married June Dewing on July 30, 1976. June is the daughter of Paul A. and Mary Jones Dewing of Warren Center, Pennsylvania. Jim and June have four children:
531454411. Melinda was June's daughter but adopted by Jim. Melinda graduated from Northeast Bradford High School in 1988 and the Philadelphia Art Institute in 1990. While at the Art Institute, Melinda received the school's Presidential Scholarship for Academic excellence and commitment to the field of fashion merchandising. Melinda has a degree in Accounting from Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Melinda is married to Dr. George Emerick.

531454413. Jason Thomas Moore (1/12/1984-6/2/2002) was born in Johnson City, New York. He was killed in an automobile accident on his way to work, just three days before graduation. He was to go to Temple University in the fall as a Landscape Architecture. Jason Moore was a member of the Warren Center United Methodist Church and a senior honor student at Northeast Bradford High School. He was a part time employee at McDonald's Restaurant in Apalachin, New York. The viewing was held at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, Nichols, New York. The funeral service and a celebration of Jason Moore's life was held at the Warren Center United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad Marple, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Coburn-Dewing Cemetery.

Debi is the Director of Lourde's Home Health Agency in Binghamton, New York. Doug works for Dupont in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Debi and Doug have two children:
531454421. Amanda Joy Hicks, ND. Amanda graduated from Northeast Bradford High School in Rome, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Lycoming collage with a bachelor's degree in biology. She then went on to the National College of Naturopathic Medicine and has a doctorate degree. On September 7, 2004 she married Julien Fey. Julien is the son of Christiane and Henri Fey of Jungholtz, Alsace, France. Julien has a PhD in molecular biolgy and is employed at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. They reside in Ithaca, New York. They have one daughter:

Keisha is a graduate of Northeast Bradford High School in Rome, Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing with a psychology minor at the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Keisha works as a nurse and also works as a camp nurse and safety needl training consultant for western Montana. Keisha Hicks and Shane Heivly were married on July 1, 2006 at the Montana Snowbowl in Missoula, Montana. Shane is the son of Bonnie Heivly of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Shane attended the University of Scranton, where he received a bachelor's degree in environmental science with a biochemistry minor. Shane works in cancer research and is pursuing a master's degree in secondary education at the University of Montana. They reside in Missoula, Montana.

Rick then went to the Pennsylvania College of Technology in 1990 and then on to Full Sail Audio, Video, and Film School in Winter Park, Florida. Rick and Kim have one son:

Jim is the son of Joe and June McMunn of Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Linda worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. and now is retired. She now works for the Endless Mountains Transportation Authority in Milan, Pennsylvania.

Funeral services were held at the Miller Funeral Home in Towanda, with the Rev. Harold Sloan of the Rome Methodist Church officiating. Pallbearers were all cousins, Ronald Brown, James Moore, William Roof, Gary Eddy, Thomas Roof, and Michael Jerzak. Interment was in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, Pennsylvania.

Malcolm Roof died of a heart attack. He also had diabetes. He worked at GTE Sylvania in Towanda, Pennsylvania for 32 years, retiring in 1992. He was member of the Wysox Presbyterian Church, the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company where he served as the coordinator of the Bingo program for 24 years, Towanda Country Club, Towanda Gun Club, and the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and golf. The viewing was at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Avenue, Towanda, Pennsylvania. The service was held at the Wysox Presbyterian Church in Wysox, Pennsylvania with the Rev. Roger E. Griffith and the Rev. Harry L. Ferguson, pastor Emeritus officiating. Interment was in the Wysox Cemetery, Wysox, Pennsylvania. Malcolm and Margaret have five children:

Later they divorced. She then married Ed Maghamez on December 8, 1984 at the Wysox Presbyterian Church in Wysox, Pennsylvania with the Rev. Harry L. Ferguson performing the ceremony. Later they divorced. Robyn has worked for GTE Sylvania in Towanda, Pennsylvania, has received an Associate degree in computer science, a Bachelors degree in economics, and is employed by the Sayre School District in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Robyn and Ed have three sons:

Ryan Maghamez is a 2003 graduate of Towanda Area High School in Towanda, Pennsylvania and a 2007 graduate of Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with a degree in electrical engineering. Ryan is now employed with Lockheed Marting in Owego, New York. Ryan is engaged to Kristina Jean Burke. She is the daughter of Jerry and Ann Marie Burke of Towanda, Pennsylvania. Kristy is a 2003 graduate Towanda Area High School in Towanda, Pennsylvania She is currently attending Wilkes University, where she is pursuing her doctorate degree in pharmacy. Their wedding plans are incomplete at this time.
