Many tribal peoples in N. Thailand live in remote hilltop villages that are often distant from schools. Children in these villages are at risk of dropping out of school at an early age and then being involved in risky activities.
One of the most successful ministies of the
TPWF has been in helping these children attend school all the way through high
school by means of student hostiles or dormitories. TPWF now
oversees the ministry of Love Your Neighbor Dorm in Amphur Mae Charim , Nan
province.
Acharn Manit Chawsan and his family have been
involved in dorm ministry for many years. Through the love and support of
Christians in the US and in Thailand, Acharn Manit has been able to expand and
develop LYN dorm into a wonderful living and learning environment for over 60
tribal kids.
Children are sponsored primarily through a program administered by our partners in ministry: The Missionary Quartermaster. Children are sponsored by individuals, churches, sunday schools and other groups. Each sponsor receives information on the child they sponsor as well as periodic updates on the progress of the child and the overall dorm ministry. TMQ is a charitable organization with 501c3 status. Children are provided basic essentials by the dorm ministry including food, clothing and transportation to school. In addition, they receive spiritual counselling in a supportive Chrisitian environment. Most of the children at the dorm have found new life in Christ and have been baptised into the local church. Christian ministry also extends to the community and to parents of the dorm children. Through this ministry, several groups of Christians and churches have been formed and strengthened.
Volunteers are needed to help with dorm ministry, ESL, prayerwalking, village followup and many other ministry areas related to the dorm ministy.
