603-588 B.C.

1 For Zion's sake (&c. Not fulfilled, therefore, in the Gospel dispensation; for Zion is still trodden down of the nations [Luke 21:24]) will I not hold My peace (here we have Messiah's intercession for Israel), and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest (cp. vv.6,7), until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burns.
2 And the nations shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory: and you shall be called by a new name (as Abraham was [Gen.17:5], and Jacob [Gen.32:28]), which the mouth of Yehovah shall expressly name (or, specify).
3 You shall also be a bridal crown of beauty (see 28:5) in the hand of Yehovah, and a royal diadem in the hand of your Elohim.
4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken (see 1:4); neither shall your land any more be termed Desolate (see 1:7): but you shall be called Hephzi-bah (= "my delight in her"probably a reference to the important marriage of king Hezekiah with Hephzi-bah, which synchronised with this prophecy. See 2 Kings 21:1), and your land Beulah (= married): for Yehovah delights in you, and your land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall your sons own (or, possess) you: and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall your Elohim rejoice over you.
6 I have set watchmen upon your walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace all the day and all the night: you all that remind of Yehovah, keep not silence,
7 And give Him no silence (as in v.6), till He establish, and till He make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

8 Yehovah has sworn by His right hand, and by the arm of His strength, “Surely I will no more give your corn to be food for your enemies (see Deut.28:30,31, &c.); and the sons of the foreigner shall not drink your wine, for the which you have laboured:
9 But they that have gathered it in shall eat it (see Deut.20:6; 28:30. Cp. Jer.31:5), and praise Yehovah (see Deut.14:23,26; 16:11,14. See note on "shall not", 13:10); and they that have brought it together shall drink it in My set apart (holy) courts.”
10 Go through, go through the gates; prepare you all the way of the People (in 40:3 the way is to be "prepared" for Messiah:here, for Hs People); cast up, cast up the highway (see 7:3); gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the People.
11 Behold, Yehovah has proclaimed to the end of the world (Heb. earth, ’eretz), “Say you all to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your salvation comes; behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.’ ”
12 And they shall call them, The set apart people (see Ex.3:5), The redeemed of Yehovah: and you shall be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

1 Who is (&c. the prophet's question) This (i.e. Messiah in the execution of His vengeance in judgment) That comes from Edom (= red. Cp. 34:5), with dyed garments from Bozrah? (= vintage. Cp. 34:5)

This That is glorious in His apparel, bending forward (as in marching) in the greatness of His strength? (for endurance) I that speak in righteousness, mighty (in endurance) to save.

2 Why are You red in Your apparel (Heb. 'adom. Hence "Edom", v.1), and Your garments like him that treads in the winepress?

3 I have trodden the trough alone; and of people[s] there was not a man with Me: for I will tread them in My anger, and trample them in My fury; and their blood will spurt upon My garments, and I will stain all My clothing. (Lit. grape-juice, put for life-blood. All this is in judgment, not redemption)
4 For the day of vengeance is in My mind, and the year (cp. 61:2) of My redeemed as by a kinsman is come. (see Ex.6:6. Deut.32:35)
5 And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore My own arm brought victory to Me (cp. 59:16); and My indignation (some codices read, "righteousness". Cp. 59:18), it upheld me.
6 And I will tread down people[s] in My anger, and make them drunk in (some codices read, "broke them in pieces with") My fury, and I will bring down their life-blood to the earth. (as in v.3)

7 I will mention the lovingkindnesses of Yehovah, and the praises of Yehovah, according to all that Yehovah has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel (see 5:7), which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies, and according to the multitude of His lovingkindnesses.
8 For He said, "Surely they are My People, sons that will not deal falsely:" so He was their Saviour.
9 In all their affliction He was afflicted (the Heb. text reads, "In all their adversity He was no adversary"), and the Angel of His presence saved them (see Ex.14:19; 23:20,21; 33:14): in His love and in His pity He redeemed them (see Ex.15:13); and He bare them (see Ex.19:4. Deut.1:31; 32:18. Cp.46:3,4. Acts 13:18), and carried them all the days of old.
10 But they rebelled (see Ex.15:24. Num.14:11,34), and vexed His set apart (holy) Spirit (Ruach): therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He Himself fought against them.
11 Then He remembered the days of old, Moses, and His People, saying, “Where is He That brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? (referring to either Moses, Aaron, and Joshua; or, the plural of Majesty, referring to Yehovah their Shepherd) where is He That put His holy Spirit within im? (see Num.11:17. Cp. Ex.14:31; 32:11,12. Num.14:13,14)
12 That led them by the right hand of Moses with His glorious arm (see Ex.15:16), dividing the water before them (see Ex.14:21), to make Himself an everlasting name? (see 44:7)
13 That led them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness, that they should not stumble?”
14 As the cattle goes down into the valley (referring to the settlement of Israel in Canaan), the Spirit of Yehovah caused him to rest: so did You lead Your People, to make Yourself a glorious name.

15 Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of Your holiness (see "courts", 62:9) and of Your glory: where is Yor zeal and Your mighty deeds, the yearning of Your bowels and of Your mercies toward me? are they restrained?

16 Doubtless You are our Father (see Deut.32:6. "Father", a rare word in this connection. Cp. 64:8), though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: You, O Yehovah, are our Father, our Redeemer (see 60:16); Your name is from everlasting.

17 O Yehovah, why have You suffered us to err from Your ways, and let us harden our heart from Your love (or, reverence)? Return for Your servants' sake (see Num.10:36), the tribes of Your inheritance.

18 Your set apart People (see Ex.3:5. Deut.7:6; 26:19) have possessed it but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down Your sanctuary.
19 We are Yours (there is no word for "Yours" in Heb. text. The Heb. accent [disjunctive] leaves a solemn hiatus between the two clauses; as though, what Israel had become could ot be expressed by words: "We are come to this - You never bare rule over them"; immplying an Ellipsis, to be supplied thus: "We are become as they"): You never bare rule over them; Your name was not called upon them.

64)

1 Oh (&c. Chapter 64 is joied to 63 by the Massoretic pointing) that You would tear the heavens, that You would come down, that the mountains might quake at Your presence, (the reference is to Sinai in these verses. Cp. Ps.68:7,8. Judg.5:4,5. Let the 2nd Advent begin!!!)
2 As when the melting fire burns, the fire causes the waters to boil (God is a consuming fire. See Heb.12:29), to make Your name known to Your adversaries (see Ps.20:1), that the nations may tremble at Your presence!
3 When You did terrible things which we looked not for (see Ex.34:10. 1st destruction, katabole), You came down, the mountains quaked at Your presence.
4 For since the beginning of the world (= from of old) men have not heard, nor have not perceived by the ear, neither has the eye seen (because of different dimention), O Elohim, beside You, what He could work (or will do) for the man who waits for Him. (quoted in 1 Cor.2:9. Cp. Ps.31:19)
5 You did meet him who was rejoicing and works righteousness (see Gen.32:1), those that remember You in Your ways (the way He opperates): behold, You were wroth; for we have sinned: in those [ways of Yours] is continuance, and we shall be saved. (IF you do it His way!)
6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf (= age); and our iniquities, like the wind (ruach), have taken us away.
7 And there is none that calls upon Your name, that stirs up himself to take hold of You: for You have hidden Your face from us (cp. 45:15; 53:3; 54:8; 57:17; 59:2. See Deut.31:17,18,20), and have consumed us, because of our iniquities.

8 But now (some codices read, "You"), O Yehovah, You are our Father (see 63:16); we are the clay, and You our potter; and we all are the work of Your hands. (He is the closest relative you have!)

9 Continue no to be wroth very sore, O Yehovah, neither continue not to remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech You, we are all Your People.

10 Your set apart cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation. (referring to the time of Matt.23:38; 24:2)
11 Our set apart and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised You (see :shall not", &c., 13:10), is burned up with fire (this prayer is prophetic; and is said now by anticipation of the then [and now still future] day of Israel's repentance and return to Yehovah): and all our goodly places (or, vesssels. Same word as in 2 Chron.26:19) are laid waste.
12 Will You refrain Yourself for these things (i.e. refuse to give way in compassion, &c. Cp. Gen.43:1; 45:1. Isa.42:14; 63:15), O Yehovah? will You hold Your peace, and afflict us very sore?

65)

1 I am sought of them that asked not for Me; I am found of them that sought Me not: I said, “Behold Me, behold Me,” to a nation that was not called by My name. (see Deut.32:21, and refers to the Dispensation of the Acts. See the Structure of "the Song of Moses", Deut.32.Quoted in Rom10:20,21)
 2 I have spread out My hands all the day to a rebellious People, which walks in a way that was not right (cp. Ps.36:4), after their own thoughts;
3 A People that provokes Me to anger (see Deut.32:21, the same word, though not the same form) continually to My face; that sacrifices in gardens (see Lev.17:5. Cp. 1:29; 57:5. Jer.2:20), and burns incense upon the bricks; (i.e. not on the golden altar of incence)
 4 Which remain among the tombs, and lodge in the secret places (probably in heathen temples), which eat swine's flesh (see Lev.11:7. Deut.14:8, where this was forbidden. Swine is an unclean animal and will make you sick if you eat it. Bones of swine were found at Gezer. See 1 Kings 9:15), and broth of abominable things (the reference is to a sacrificial feast of unclean food. See Lev.7:18; 19:7) is in their vessels;
5 Which say, “Stand by yourself, come not near to me; for I am holier than you.” “These are a smoke in My nose, a fire that burns all the day.
6 Behold, it is written before Me (see Ex.32:35. Lev.26. Deut.32): I will not keep silence, but will recompense (see Deut.32:35, the same word, and is unique in its occurence), even recompense into their bosom,
7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together,” says Yehovah, “which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed Me upon the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.”

8 Thus says Yehovah (note the frequent occurence of ths expression in predicting these new thngs. The first is 42:5), “According as the new wine (here is further reference to the new Israel. See v.1) is found in the cluster, and one says, ‘Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it:’ so will I do for My servants' sakes (some codices read, "servant's", singular: i.e. Messiah [see 37:35]: = "for the sake of My servant"), that I may not destroy them all.
9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob (a further reference to the new Israel of 26:2; 66:7,8. Matt.21:43), and out of Judah an inheritor of My mountains: and My elect shall inherit it, and My servants shall dwell there.
10 And Sharon (see 33:9) shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor (as in Hos.2:15. The only two references to the history of Josh.7) a place for the herds to lie down in, for My People that have sought Me.

11 But you all are they that forsake Yehovah (see 1:4), that forget My set apart mountain, that prepare a table for that troop (Heb. Gad, the well-known Syrian god of "Fate"), and that fill up the mixed wine (cp. Jer.7:18; 44:17) to that number. (Heb. meni. Same as the god Manu [= Destiny] of the Assyrian insriptions)
12 Therefore will I destroy you to the sword (Heb. manithi, Fig., with the name of god, Meni), and you all shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, you all did not answer; when I spoke, you all did not hear; but did evil before My eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not.” (see 1:29)
13 Therefore thus says Adonai Yehovah, “Behold (Luke 6:25 refers to the period prophesied here. He's talking to the wicked), My servants (refers to the new Israel of 26:2; 66:7,8. Matt.21:43) shall eat, but you all shall be hungry: behold, My servants shall drink (i.e. His holy Word. See Amos 8:11), but you all shall be thirsty: behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you all shall be ashamed:
14 Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you all shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for breaking of spirit.
15 And you all shall leave your name for a curse to My chosen: for Adonai Yehovah shall slay you (He's about to blot them out, not Satan [yet]), and call His servants by another name: (i.e Hephzi-bah. See62:4)
16 So that he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the Elohim of faithfulness (see Gen.22:18;26:4. Cp. 2 Cor.1:20); and he that swears in the earth shall swear by the Elohim of faithfulness (see Deut.6:13); because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from My eyes. (this will reach His heart and wll be blotted out. He will forgive you)

17 For, behold, I create a new heaven age and a new earth age (

): and the former (namely those which were, and are now) shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
18 But be you all glad and rejoice for ever (Chald. Targum renders it "in the world of worlds": i.e. the most glorious world) in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. (this is how it was in the beginning)
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My People: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her (therefore not the restoration of Ezra-Nehemiah, or the Church of God now), nor the voice of crying. (nothing to cause you to weep)
20 An there shall be no more from that place an infant of a few days, nor an old man that has not filled his days (we have eternity - no such thing as age): for the youth may die an hundred years old (i.e. neither early death, nor premature decay.); but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be cut off. (cp. Ps.101:8)

21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; (see Lev.26:16. Deut.28:41. See Rev.21)

and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit;

they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of My People (symbology for length of life of the evergreen), and My elect elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
23 They shall not labour in vain (see Deut.28:41, reversed. Cp. Lev.26:16), nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of Yehovah, and their offspring with them.
24 And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. (a refeerence to 30:19. The new blessing of Messiah [Ps.21:3] now extended to the new Israel)
25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed as one (as in 11:6,7,9, which is Millennial, not eternal), and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat (never was the serpent's food. It is used as a powerful Figure of Speech, or Idiom, as in Ps.72:9. cp. Rev.20:17. = as for the serpent, dust shall be his food: i.e. the Old Serpent (Rev.20:2), who brought in all the sin and misery to the world and to Israel, will then be bound [Rev.20:1-3], and he will lick the dust, the symbol of his humiliation, disappointment, and defeat.Referring to the Figures used in Gen. 3:14). They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My set apart mountain,” (see 11:9) says Yehovah.

66)

1 Thus says Yehovah, (quoted in Acts 7:49. Cp. 1 Kings 8:27. 2 Chron.6:18) “The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: where is this house that you all (i.e. the future builders) build to Me? and where is the place of My rest? (i.e. rest in satisfaction. The Temple was for sacrifice and atonemment [2 Chron.2:6], not for dwelling. Cp. Acts 7:48. Wake up! Emotions of our Father. He is putting you in your place)
2 For all those things has My hand made, and all those things have been, [is] Yehovah's oracle: but to this man will I look, even to him that is wrtched (or, lowly. See Prov.6:11) and of a contrite spirit, and cares anxiously for My word. (humble yourself)
3 He that kills an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog's neck; he that offeres a gift (or, meal offering), as if he offered swine's blood (very poluted! Unclean! He doesn't want it! See Deut.14:8. Lev.11:7); he that makes a memorial of frankincense (see Lev.2:2), as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and they delight in their abominations. (Oh, but it looks so religious! Like "Easter". They chose traditions of men and won't accept God's way)
4 I also will choose their [strong] delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; (i.e. nightmares)

because when I called, none did answer;

when I spoke, they did not hear: but they have done the evil before My eyes, (like follow spurious teachings and the spurious messiah, anti-christ, who is Satan)

and chose that in which I delighted not.
5 Hear the word of Yehovah, all you that tremble at His word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for My name's sake, said, ‘Let Yehovah be glorified:’ but Ke shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.
6 A voice of noise from the city (cp. Zech.12:3-6; 14:3), a voice from the temple, a voice of Yehvah that renders recompence to His enemies. (cp. 65:6)

7 Before she travailed, she brought forth (this is the birth of the new nation. These are the "birth pangs" [or "sorrows"] of Matt.24:8. In Rev.12:1,2 we have one part of the type in the person of Messiah. Here is the other part of the type); before her pain came, she was delivered of a male. (as in Rev.12:5)
8 And who has heard such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at a stroke? (i.e the righteous nation of 26:2. Referred to in v.7. Matt.21:43) for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her sons.
9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth?” says Yehovah: “shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb?” says your Elohim.
10 “Rejoice you all with Jerusalem (the promises of 1:27; 2:1-5, are now at length to be fulfilled), and be glad with her, all you all that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all you all that mourn for her: (as for one lost, or dead. See 3:26)
11 That you all may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that you all may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory.
12 For thus says Yehovah, Behold, I will extend prosperty to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like a flowing stream: then shall you all suck (the promises of 49:22 and 60:4 are again renewed), you all shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.
13 As a an whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you; and you all shall be comforted in Jerusalem. (not in the Church. Cp. 1:1)
14 And as soon as you all see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb: and the hand of Yehovah shall be known toward His servants, and His indignation toward His enemies.

15 For, behold, Yehovah will come with fire, and with His chariots like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire. (see Heb. 12:29)
16 For by fire and by His sword will Yehovah plead with all flesh (fig., put for all mankind): and the slain of Yehovah shall be many.
17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind the asherah in the midst (cp. 1:29; 40:5, and 65:3), eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse (forbidden, unclean. See Lev.11:29. See 1 Sam.6:4,5,11,18), shall be consumed together, says Yehovah.
 18 For I know their works and their devices: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues (cp. Joel 3:2. Zeph.3:8);

and they shall come, and see My glory.
19 And I will set a sign among them (see 7:11), and I will send (as missionaries) those that escape of them to the nations (i.e. the remant of saved Israel), to Tarshish (put for the far west), Pul, and Lud (= Phut...Lud, put for African peoples. They are mentioned together, as serving in the Egyptian armies [Ezek.30:5]), that draw the bow, to Tubal (= the Scythian tribes), and Javan (put for the Greeks settled in Asia Minor), to the maritime countries afar off (see 11:11), that have not heard My fame, neither have seen My glory; and they shall declare My glory among the nations.
20 And they shall bring (not into the Church, but back to the Holy Land) all your brethren for a gift offering to Yehovah out of all nations

upon horses,

and in chariots, and in litters,

and upon mules,

and upon carriages (= carriages, as required by the Structure. "Swift beasts" is Heb. kirkăroth, from kărar, to move in a circle; hence, may mean [like English car] any vehicle on wheels. It is never used of animals. There is nothing to suggest "swaying furnaces", as suggested by some, to mean "locomotives"), to My set apart mountain Jerusalem,” says Yehovah, “according as the sons of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of Yehovah. (see Lev.2, &c.)
21 And I will also take of them (i.e. Israel) for priests and for Levites,” (see Deut. 17:9. See also Ezek.43:19; 44:10,13,15. Thus completing the fulfilment of Ex.19:6) says Yehovah.
22 “For as the new heaven age and the new earth age (see 65:17), which I will make, shall remain before Me, [is] Yehovah's oracle, so shall your seed and your name remain.
23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another (see the law concerning them, Num.10:10; 28:11-15. Cp. Ps.81:3,4), shall all flesh come to worship before Me (implying centralized worship, as in Ex.20:3,5. Deut.26:3,5. Cp. 1:12), [is] Yehovah's oracle.
24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against Me: for their worm shall not die (quoted in Mark 9:44. Referred to by our Lord to Gehenna, of which the fires in the valley of Hinnom were an illustration. Heb. tőlă‘, the maggot bred from putrid substances. See Ex.16:20. Deut.28:39. Job 25:6 [second word]. Ps.22:6. Isa.14:11 [second word]; 41:14; here; and Jonah 4:7, which are all occurances of tőlă‘ in O.T. In the synagogueuse, v.23 is repeated after v.24, so that the Book may end with comfort. Cp. end of Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, and Malachi), neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh.” (the Heb. occurs only here)
