"Sofie, the Queen of Oakland" WINNER 2002 at the National Novel Writing Month. In November of 2002, Jim wrote the first draft of a novel titled, Sofie, the Queen of Oakland. The story tells of a young beauty queen from the late 1920's who finds herself able to communicate through a time warp with a modern day prisoner. Together they work to solve a decades old, and forgotten cold-case which involved rape and murder during her time in Oakland, California.
"The Girl With the Cello" WINNER 2003: Another National Novel Writing Month novel about an accomplished young cellist emigrates to America from war-torn Yugoslavia, only to find herself trapped by a serial rapist. "The Marker" WINNER: 2005: The third in a series of novels writen at the National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo) tells the story of a knife manufacured in England in the 18th century which winds a metaphorical journey through American history.. |
