Monday, October 18, 2004 I'm sure nobody noticed that I didn't write anything for a whole week.... But I'll explain anyway. Although my cold was in remission, it came back in form of a life-draining flu-type "plague" of disgusting illness. I barely made it into work let alone update a blog. In fact, it wasn't until Thursday that I managed to stay a whole day, and I really wasn't myself until Sunday. Until then I was called Frank.... OK, bad joke, I admit it! But there is a call for much celebration! I've got pumpkins! No, that's not some sort of weird euphamism for something indecent. I found a farm in Leicester--Breezy Gardens--to donate pumpkins for our pumpkin decorating fundraiser at the Harvest Festival! FIFTY (50) beautiful pumpkins. Now I just need materials with which people can decorate them. But I have pumpkins! TRA LA LA! This weekend I supervised the Board of Directors onsite--along with students from Assumption College. Oh yes, it was quite a party, and by the end of the work day, I was exhausted. Then Sunday I drove to Nashua, New Hampshire for a Take a Hike planning meeting. It wasn't completely dull, and in fact, we all brain-stormed some good ideas for getting more hikers. So this is my official "Get My Act Together Week" and it seems to be getting off to a good start (i.e. pumpkins!). Hopefully that will continue. And to that end, thus ends my blog for the day. |
I only have one thing to say this week: WAHOO! |

Tuesday, October 19, 2004 It's a beautiful rainy fally day here in Worcester. Why? Because we've got all the pumpkins we can pick, thanks to our Special Events Committee Chair, and Staples has agreed to donate art supplies for pumpkin decorating. So, who wants to pick pumpkins on Friday? Ta da da! Good things do happen to good people and organizations. (Grr, email not working! "Server rejects sender." But you're my server! How can you reject me? I just don't get it.) I think this weekend's event is going to go well. I'm disappointed that I can't be at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Gegas and the Louzados, but there's nothing I can do about it. * * * * * * * * Job Front This is a new segment that will focus on my transition out of AmeriCorps and into the real world. I'm still planning on going to grad school next fall, but in the meantime I need to find a job, healthcare, switch auto insurance, get a new Massachusetts driver's license, etc. It shall be quite the challenge. One job I looked at only pays $10.00/hour, but that's a fortune compared to what I earn now! I would be a Customer Care Representative for Scholastic Book Fair. How fun is that? I loved getting those book fliers at school and choosing what books I wanted. And my mother still buys books from them for her class. Today, though, I found what could be a fabulous job: Administrative Support Assistant. Sounds dull, right? Well, just wait. I wouldn't be just anywhere. I would be working in Cambridge for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory's Grant Awards Section. I would have nothing to do with selecting who wins grants and fellowships, but I would help with the day to day administration of about $11 million of scientific observing awards issued annually on behalf of NASA. Hello, how cool is that? I want to do this so bad. If there was someone I could kneel down and grovel and beg in front of, I would. Keep your fingers crossed! Perhaps someone should found the Jennifer Hibbard Praryer Committee (like the Presidential Prayer Committee). |
Thursday, October 21, 2004 WHAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The late nights have paid off: we're going to the World Series! Yes, the "we" signifies that I have joined the ranks of Red Sox fans. I have very much enjoyed watching the games this last week, and after putting down such roots as Red Sox loyalty, I would really hate to have to pull them up and move back to the Midwest (specifically, my parents' house). So, I'm taking next Monday off (since I'll be working all weekend with pumpkins) to finish up my Clark application, and do some intensive job hunting/applying. Almost equally as glorious: OUR NEW INTERNET CONNECTION! It's faster than Superman and twice as sexy in those tights. I would like to write more, but I am really busy with work (and a bit tired). |
