Happy Monday!

And not so happy Monday.  It's Wayne's last week, and Tim just pointed out that it's the last week of the phrase "Let me put it this way..." Wayne's catchphrase.  Bummer.

I guess our ED-free stint will illustrate what the board is made of.

On a happy note, I've signed GWHFH up for a Business Photo Discount Card wtih CVS Pharmacy.  We get 10% all of our photo processing.  Awesome.  Good job, me, for finding ways to save!

I've taken the book
Developing Dynamic Boards off the shelf here in the office and have started grazing through it.  I figure I might as well learn all I can while I'm here.  So, especially with Wayne soon-to-be-gone, I might as well learn how a board should ideally function.

Friday I attended a political function for Rep.  Jim McGovern.  I like him. When he gives a speech he actually says something, and states opinions!  You can actually understand what he means.  There's nothing wishy-washy about McGovern.  It's meeting politicians like that, that keeps my faith in our political system alive.

We started siding the duplex on Paine Street.  We made so much more progress in one Saturday than I ever thought possible.  A lot of thanks goes to a volunteer with much experience and a lazer level.  An absolute gift from God.  Thank you for your court-ordered community service!

I'm preparing this week for the Battle of the Bands/nonprofit festival being held this weekend.  As its targeted population is high school kids, I'm going to get a bunch of suckers and attached Habitat and housing facts to them.  There's nothing like bribery to get kids interested!

And our webpage updates are not going well.  I've been trying to think of a way we could get access to technology that would allow us to update and upload the GWHFH page ourselves.  My latest brainstorm is wireless internet perhaps in conjuction with WPI--right next store and wireless ready.... must be something that we can do.  It's very frustrating.  I would be updating that page at least once a week.
Here it is: the continuing saga of my experience as an AmeriCorps Vista volunteer in Worcester, Massachusetts.  I would love to hear from any other AmeriCorps volunteers or nonprofit employees--especially volunteer coordinators.  Email me--tell me what you think, or share your own experiences.  Together we'll survive this crazy nonprofit world!

My heart goes out to the family of the hostage.
