Looking for something?

Maybe I'm a total dope, but I just discovered the Open Directory Project the other day.  But now that I know about, I'm all for it!  Their slogan: "Humans do it better."  Join the movement to help organize the web.  You can even become an editor of a category.  I think the
ODP represents the best of the internet: what it should and could be.

The Onion Online--I did ponder for a moment whether I should put this in news/alternative media... If you aren't already familiar with the Onion, than you need to become so!  They definitely have the best horoscopes around.  ;-)
Mother Jones Online--The classic MoJo news soucre online for your edification.  A wonderful contrast to CNN and Fox News.
News/Info/Alternative Media
BBC News Online--Get the lowdown on events all around the world, both in print and streaming radio/video.
FAIR--Fairness And Accuracy in Reporting.  Commentary and corrections of all media.  Really very interesting.  Also a good selection of books about the media--and great message t-shirts, such as "Don't Trust the Corporate Media."  Who doesn't want that across her chest?
Fun
Fun
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me....--NPR's weekly news quiz.  Panelists include Paula Poundstone and Mo Rocka.  The prize for winning the quiz?  Karl Castle's voice on your home answering machine!
Car Talk--I don't know anything about cars, but I know that I love listening to Click and Clack!  You can also find out your car horoscope.  Could anything be more fun than that?

Kelley's Korner--My good pal Kelley and I go way back.  This page started as a project for her MA, but I think it's turned into her new favorite toy.  You can read about our adventure in Luxembourg--the cows are by far the best part.
This American Life--I love this show.  It's so well put together, so well-written, and so well presented.  I could listen to episodes of it all day.  I especially love when David Sedaris is one of the story tellers.
T-Shirts and Stickers
T-Shirts and Stickers
BANT SHIRTS--Let your clothes say something.  Ideological, political, and "other" t-shirts let your clothes do more than keep you un-naked.
CARRY A BIG STICKER--Bumper stickers!  All sorts of different slogans and sizes.  Magnetic bumper stickers and fridge magnets too.  My favorite?  "Let's Not Elect Him in 2004 Either."  It can currently be seen on many cars, including my own.  Yee haw.
NOT BANNED YET--Find all sorts of great t-shirts, mugs, etc (you get the picture) with some very creative, um leftist leaning ideas.  I'm very fond of the "Bush Co." t-shirt: "Making the world safe for rich white men everywhere."
REASON 8--High quality t-shirts not made in sweatshops.  Complete with 8 reasons to wear and agree with their t-shirts.  I recently purchased the "Think" shirt, and it's way cool (it also smelled like incense when I took it out of its package--much better than smelling like plastic, or like store).  I highly recommend this site and their clothes!
DRUM MAJOR INSTITUTE--The DMI has put out a report on our representatives and senators voting records, as it aligns with the middle class's preference.  In other words: are your congressmen voting for you or against you?
Midwest Girl--As my friend Rebecca says on her blog: "You can take the girl out of the Midwest, but you can you take the Midwest out of the girl?"  Follow her adventures (real and virtual) as a research librarian in Baltimore, Maryland.  Her heart, I think, remains back in good ol' Wisconsin.
What Video Game Character Are You?--Thank my friend Rebecca for this link.  I might not be familiar with too many pre-1985 video game characters, but it is a great time-waster!
ALTERNET--"Providing readers with crucial facts and passionate opinions" since 1998.  Dedicated to providing it's readers with reliable information and spirited editorials. All the news without the flashy graphics and music of CNN. News for news, not entertainment.
Laura's Page--Laura's my very good friend, and when she's not busy calling me on the phone during work, writing me "Happy Wednesday" emails, babysitting her nephews, or eating food that Jeremy (her husband) cooks, she's spending quality time with her brand new car!
CAFE PRESS--Not only can you find all sorts of cool and kooky merchandise here, you can start up your own cafe press store, for free!  Have an artsy hobby transferable to t-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, mouse pads, etc?  Here's a way to get it out there into the world (with minimum fuss for you).  Try Jenny's Junk Shop!
Jeremy's Page--Not willing to let Laura have all of the fun, Jeremy has started his own page, filled with skits such as "Who Would Jesus Vote For?: The Barbara Walters Special" and "Buckets of Bushisms."
Dictionary.com--Get the word of the day, but best of all, the crossword puzzle of the day and the word search of the day!  Good entertainment and free.
Homestar Runner--I have to thank my friend Jon for this one.  If you have some spare time (well, you're already at my site, so you must!) and are looking for some goofy laughs, check out this online animated cartoon featuring such enduring characters as Strong Bad and his brothers Strong Sad and Strong Mad.  And, of course, Homestar Runner.
JibJab.com--Someone pointed me towards this site, and I'm so glad!  A satirical look at the presidential campaign plus some other silly stuff.  The animated "duet" of Kerry and Bush really is hilarious!
Mark Fiore--He's the creator behind the great cartoons on Mother Jones.com.  But Mark has his own webpage where you can view all his cartoons.  Fabulous.
Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About--How did I not have this page on here earlier?  I somehow discovered this page months and months ago--I think it was thanks to The Onion.com, actually.  Anyway this page chronicals the relationship of Mil and Margret, specifically cataloguing their arguements, and even more specifically, the opinion that Margret is insane.  If you need a good laugh and have some time to kill--hey, you're already on my website, after all--you need to visit this site.  Need to.
What Video Game Character Are You? I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.I am a Gauntlet Adventurer.

I strive to improve my living conditions by hoarding gold, food, and sometimes keys and potions. I love adventure, fighting, and particularly winning - especially when there's a prize at stake. I occasionally get lost inside buildings and can't find the exit. I need food badly. What Video Game Character Are You?
