Sentosa Island

View of Sentosa atop Merlion tower

Dragon at the Sentosa entrance Sentosa Island (which means Isle of Tranquility in Malay) has been transformed into a top pleasure resort offering a variety of activities and tourist attractions.

From Penang Rd (which is across Meridian Mall) we took Bus 65 which route ends at the World Trade Centre. Here you have a choice of taking the cable car or the ferry to cross over to Sentosa Island. (We took the cable car going and the ferry coming back.)

We were right at the time the special Mega Saver Sandsation was offered (S$22.90 per adult, a one-price admission to 13 attractions). Since we arrived almost 11am, we only got to see some of these. Among which were: Volcano Land, the Merlion, Dolphin Lagoon (including the dolphin show), and best of all (to us), Underwater World. Shuttle buses and a monorail are the means of going around the island. So, even if you don't stop at any of the places where the attractions are, you get to pass by them.

Sentosa Island features one of the largest Merlion (37m tall) in Singapore. The Merlion is a mythical animal with the head of a lion and the body of a mermaid. Created about 30 years ago, it has become the official symbol of Singapore.

Going inside the tower, there are also sea-scores of tropical fish, a mysterious sunken pirate ship filled with treasures, and other surprises. We used the lifts to ride up to the viewing decks in its mouth at the 9th floor, and the crown on the 12th floor where the view is simply breathtaking.
