Ancona Ducks
Updated: 1/10/2005
After having struggled to find any information on these birds I finally decided that I would put together this page from the information I have gathered on this wonderful breed. The origins of this breed is questionable but some believe that they are descended from the old German Hattenburg Duck which displays similar markings while others believe they are the badly marked Magpie ducks. But I must STRESS, Anconas ARE NOT, badly marked Magpies, they have a different body style, are in a different weight class and are the best layers of the medium weight duck class. They are truely a breed within their own selves, a breed worth of eventual standardization.
Below you will find a standard for the breed. (Keep in mind that Anconas are not yet accepted by the APA so this standard is not the official standard for the breed. I wrote it with the help of another breeder who is also working on the breed.) There are also pictures of each variety at the bottom of this page.
(This page is in black in white to simplify the printing of the working standard and other information. Feel free to print this page for your use.)
