Digital output for old PCM recorders JK Labs offer a digital output solution for the now outdated video-based digital 16 bit PCM recorders from Sony. With this card PCM tapes can be transferred to 44k1 consumer DAT format. ur solution work with the Sony PCM-F1, PCM-501, PCM-601 and PCM-701. The same solution will work in related PCM units carrying the Nakamichi brand name. The card has not yet been attemptet installed into PCM recorders from Toshiba or Marantz but we expect no problems in so doing. The add-on card translates the digital signals from the internally used EIAJ-340 format to an S/PDIF (IEC 958) output stream. Emphasis is observed and set correctly. Copyprotection ("SCMS") bits are jumper programmable and can be set to "off" ("00")- The digital output stream from the card is wired to an RCA jack on the rear of the unit. The PCM format stored digital data to consumer format video tapes. When playing back videotapes on videorecorders conforming to the NTSC (US) video system, the digital signal will emerge with an apparent samplerate of 44.056 kHz (0.1% slow) Not all consumer DATs will lock to the S/PDIF stream emerging from the PCM unit due to the non-standard clock. Most pro units other hand do establish a lock. |
