LEAGUE
RULES :
Please
remember to play all 3 games and record the scores. Results and names of the
players should be sent collectively after all matches have been played and
before the end of Full Term.

GENERAL:
1. That the League shall consist of teams
approved by the League Secretary.
2. That the League Secretary be appointed
annually by the Blues Captain. Any complaints about the League Secretary should
be directed to the Blues Captain.
3. That all complaints be sent to the League
Secretary, by email, within seven days of the incident with a copy to the
opposition College secretary (where relevant). Such complains shall be
investigated by the League Secretary.
4. That all matter arising that are not covered
in these rules will be investigated by the League Secretary.
5. New Colleges and additional teams from
existing Colleges wishing to join the League shall submit their request by
email to the League Secretary. These teams shall normally enter the competition
in the lowest division. If it is considered to be to the advantage of the
League to do so then the new team may be placed in a higher division as decided
by the League Secretary, whose decision is final.
MATCH:
6. That all games be played under the rules of
the Badminton Association of England.
7. That
a team shall consist of either six persons in the Open League, or six Ladies in
the Ladies League, please see bottom for the eligibility of players.
8. That the home team be responsible for:
(a) The place of playing.
(This includes the cost of courts but not any entry costs for individual
players)
(b) The provision of an adequate supply of NEW cork based nylon
shuttlecocks such as Yonex Mavis, although feathered shuttles can be used if
both sides agree.

(c) Informing the opposition team of the time and venue AT LEAST SEVEN DAYS before the fixture.
(d) Booking courts for a sufficient period to allow the completion of
all the games. If all the games cannot be played in the time available, ALL REMAINING GAMES SHALL BE AWARDED TO THE
AWAY TEAM.
9. If the home team has been trying to contact
the away team and there has been no reply, try any other contact for the college
(secr./women's / men's) If there is no response for seven days, the League
Secretary must be informed. The home team may claim a walkover after permission
is received from the League Secretary.
10. That all faults and lets relating to the
structure of the building shall be clearly defined and stated by the home team
prior to beginning the match.
11. That all League matches shall consist of
nine events of 1 game played in the order below, or as agreed by both Captains.
All games are level doubles. The order of events is:
(1) H1 v A1
(2) H2 v A2
(3) H3 v A3
(4) H1 v A2
(5) H3 v A1
(6) H2 v A3
(7) H3 v A2
(8) H1 v A3
(9) H2 v A1
(H & A denote home and away
pair respectively)
12. That matches shall not start later that
8:30pm, unless the consent of BOTH Captains
is obtained at least seven days before the fixture. If one team is unable to
begin the match in the order given above, or as agreed (see rule 10) by the
scheduled start time agreed beforehand, the team ready to start may claim game
number (1) given in rule 10. If after 10 minutes, one team is still unable to
begin, the team ready to start may also claim number (2) given in rule 10. If
after 20 minutes, one team is still unable to begin, the team ready to start
may also claim number (3) given in rule 10. In all cases the games must be
claimed in this order and at the time of play. The match may be claimed after 30 minutes. If the match is
claimed, see rule 16.
13. That, subject to the agreement of both
Captains, substitutes may be allowed, in the event of injuries, in the
remaining games. Substitutes must not be members of the team which has been
declared, nor of another team playing that night.
14. That the home team shall be responsible for
sending the results to the League Secretary via email.
15. That the League will be decided first on
matches won, and then on games won if two or more teams have the same match
total.
16. When
matches are conceded, the League Secretary must be informed with a reason
before the score of 9-0 is sent to the League Secretary. The score can be
entered after permission is received from the League Secretary.
17. If an away team fail to turn up for a match
the home team may claim for court costs at their discretion up to a maximum of
£10.
18. That TWO
teams at the top of each division shall be promoted, and TWO teams at the bottom of each
division shall be relegated each term. In extreme circumstances this rule may
be varied at the discretion of the League Secretary. At the end of each term, the 2nd highest team in each of division 3A and 3B will play against each other. The winning team of this match will then play against the third bottom team in division 2. The winner of this match will be in division 2 the following term, and the loser will be in division 3. Court costs to be split between both teams. The match must be played at a time agreed by both captains.
19. That where a College enter more than one
team, the College must allocate its players to specific team where no one player
may be allocated to more than one teams.
(a) Each team must have at
least six players.
(b) Each player can be a
substitute in a lower team than his own twice per term.
(c) Each player can be a
substitute in a higher team that his own as many times as necessary.
(d) No more than two
substitutes may play in any single match.
20. That the breaking of rules be reported to
the League Secretary for their consideration.
21. That the League Secretary’s decisions are
final.
22. That the League Secretary may change the
rules at his/her discretion.

is subject to change, but the League Secretary will inform Colleges of this. ELIGIBILITY Men who have played more than two BUSA matches in the same academic year are ineligible to play in either league. Ladies who have played more than two BUSA matches in the same academic year are ineligible to play in the Ladies League but may play in the Open League competition. A
current list of those players is available from the League Secretary. As last term, if anyone is found to violate
this rule the team concerned will be removed from the League from the current and
the next session when the league is operational. This will include If you are either i)
a research
assistant who does not belong to any college OR ii)
a
student who belongs to a college without a team and you would like to play for another
college’s team, then you have to request permission from the league
secretaries. Individuals who do not fall into these
categories are not eligible to play in the league. If there are any queries on
