Summary:
Here is a summary of when the New Kids were on the American Music Awards in 1990. They won 2 awards, one was Favorite Pop-Rock Album and the other was Favorite Pop Duo or Group. For the Pop Rock Album category, they beat out Bobby Brown and Paula Abdul, and for the Favorite Duo/Group they beat Bon Jovi and Milli Vanilli. Jordan didn't say much at the acceptance speeches. When they accepted the Pop Rock Album Donnie said "Not bad for 5 guys from Dorchester" and then he invited Maurice Starr on stage. Joe said Jon was still getting ready for the performance since he didn't come on stage. Donnie also said he'd like to give respect to the other artists that were nominated and said thanks for helping us show that "music is a universal language, even if it is spoken with a Boston accent". When they won the second award, Joe came said "I know we're making you mad booing up there, but we're doing it for the girls up there!" Donnie said "This is dedicated to the fans. Thanks for making us who we are. It may not be music to some people's ears but you girls keep screaming cause we love it!" They also performed a melody of "Didn't I Blow Your Mind", "Cover Girl", "Hangin Tough", "The Right Stuff", and "This One's For the Children". They also presented an award to Paula Abdul for Favorite Pop Rock Female. Each of the guys took turns and said a few words when they presented.
