Here's a summary of Jordan on WBZC Dec. 9, 2002, I just paraphrased the main points:
Played "When You're Lonely"
Pre-Recorded intro about the success of NKOTB, (millions of albums sold etc)
Jordan on the phone, DJ goes over famous vocal groups of the past, and asks Jordan what it was like
Jordan said after hearing the statistics from the intro it reminded him how popular they were, Like New Edition when it was going on they were just
doing their job, and it didn't really hit them until later, and now it's like "I can't believe I did that"
DJ asks about how the New Kids started
Jordan talks about Maurice Starr and how Donnie tracked him down. "Please Don't Go Girl" was first top 40 single, etc.
DJ talks about people listening to the show all over the world. Said they played a contest on the air called "Guess the Song" and they played "Let's
Try it Again" and people were guessing it was Stylistics and other legendary groups, and he asked Jordan if it was a conscious effort to sound like those
guys.
Jordan said "For me it was, it was all I listened to" "When You're Lonely" was a conscious effort.
Plays "Let's Try it Again" and a montage of Jordan/NKOTB songs
DJ says tells Jordan about my website, and Jordan says "Cool, hi Melissa" :)
DJ talks says he really likes "Finally Finding Out"
Jordan agrees, and says it's got a good beat, and a Maxwell sound
DJ asks him how did you develop your sound (falsetto)
Jordan said Russell Tompkin's (Stylistics) and Luther Vandross, were influences
DJ says William Hart, lead singer of the Delfonics really liked the New Kids version of "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" and was glad they made it a hit again.
DJ asks if Jordan has ever had the chance to work with the "pioneer" artists
Jordan said they met William Hart and he was pushing to have the New Kids do "La La Means I Love You"
Plays "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" (mentions it was released twice in 86 & 89)
Plays "Finally Finding Out"
DJ asks about working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis
Jordan said it was wonderful because you'd think they would be perfectionists, but they just let Jordan sing what he wants to sing, and they let him have fun.
DJ says he's grown as an artist, for example re-doing the Prince song the way he did, then he asks Jordan how they got they idea to do that song
Jordan said he and Robin Thicke were driving, and listening to Prince, and that song was on (Jordan sing a bit of the melody) and Jordan said that Robin started humming the song slower, and Jordan said "let's try doing that as a slow song"
DJ asks if Jordan plays an interments
Jordan says he plays piano/keyboards
DJ asks about him playing small piano bars
Jordan said he likes performing even in front of 15 people, and he said he enjoyed playing in front of older people who know the older songs and it
gives him satisfaction that he can help them reminisce
DJ talks about how New Kids remind him of Tempations, New Edition Etc. and how they are the blueprints of the groups like NSync and Backstreet
Boys
Jordan said they had their influences too, such as New Edition and the Jackson 5
Dj asks what was like making the transition from being in a group to being solo artist
Jordan said it was little scary, because you make the decisions and have to take all the blame, but you can make decisions a lot quicker.
DJ asks about "Tender Love"
Jordan said he loved it since 1986, and it was one of the first songs he learned on the piano, and now he felt there has been enough time since it
came out to re-make it. Jordan was a little nervous re-doing since Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis wrote it.
Plays "Tender Love"
DJ asks how he prepared himself to record a song like that
Jordan said he tries to visualize yourself in the situation he's singing about
DJ asks if he'll tour
Jordan said around March/April
DJ talks about other groups re-uniting, and if there is a possibility of NKOTB re-uniting
Jordan said that he would not rule it out, it would be cool, but everyone is going down their own paths, but he still talks to them, and it would take a lot of time to do it.
DJ said NKOTB was nominated in the "Vocal Group Hall of Fame" in the 80's category, and now they're moving out to the legendary status
Jordan said does "blow his mind" but it makes him feel old
Jordan records a radio ID for the station
Jordan talks about "Right Here Waiting" and how it was like the opposite of the Prince song where he made a slow song into a fast song.
DJ says that shows his artistry, and it was cool he did that.
