I hope this will give you some helpful pointers regarding keeping your little boxer darling clean, smelling fresh and maintaining quality skin care.  I've been with dogs my entire life and have 10 +years  working at a veterinarian hospital.  This information  is indeed my opinion but warranted with extreme experience and guidance.
Boxers should only be bathed in normal circumstances several times a year not several times a month, not several times a week.    Bathing the dog excessively takes the natural oils out of the skin, thus making  the dog shed,  flake and cause  dry dull hair.  I'm confronted on  a regular basis with clients complaining and upset about how bad their dog is shedding,  only to find out that in trying to help the dogs they have been bathing excessively.  The more they shed the more they bath.. big mistake!!..  If you've fallen in the bath fetish, no time like the present to correct it.  Stop bathing your little guy, start adding some more protein in their diet to help regain the natural oils. (cooking oil works great added to their dry kibbles as well as a healthy dose of regular peanut butter on a regular basis.  Before long you will notice that gorgeous boxer shine start to reappear.

Our boxers coats are somewhat maintenance free compared to other high maintenance breeds.  Try to brush your boxers a few times a week to distribute the oils through their hair.  Not only will they look better, it gives you some quality one on one time with your canine friend.   After all.... Who doesn't like to have their back rubbed??
If you notice any kind of skin problem that is out of the ordinary, please consult your vet,  it might be something very simple like a hot spot, or it might be something that must be treated with medications such as allergies.  It's better to be safe than sorry, don't hesitate to make that vet visit when in doubt..
I personally do not like the over the counter flea  shampoos that you find at most of your local chain stores.   I don't recommend any of these harsh shampoos, but if you must,  invest with a brand that is recommended by your vet or a reputable pet supply store.  If you find yourself in the situation that your boxer is having an allergic reaction to any over the counter harsh flea shampoo/soap immediately wash your dog is a dish detergent such as palmolive that will remove everything from the hair.  (this procedure is also recommend when you apply the over the counter flea drops that may also cause an allergic reaction.)
The shampoo I prefer and is very popular is an oatmeal based shampoo called "dermasoothe".  It is a very gentle shampoo that cleans the hair and isn't harsh on the skin.  Its also great for those of  you who do have boxers with allergies.
So now you say.. ok so what do I do about the dirt and smell???? That is a very simple  answer  "baby wipes"!!!!!.  Baby wipe their little muddy feet, baby wipe that dirt off their muzzle when they dig in their favorite hole, baby wipe their whole bodies!!!!  This will achieve the results your looking for and results in your little canine smelling fresh and also helps remove loose hair.  and  best of all, it's disposable.
For those of you who love to take your canine swimming in the family pool, if your experiencing dry dull skin or allergy like symptoms, again all the chemicals are taking its toll on your canines skin.  There really isn't any permanent relief for this unless you limit the amount of time your dogs spends in the pool, adding more protein will help restore  but won't eliminate the problem unless you eliminate the source, the chemically treated water.
Hope these suggestions help those who have a bath fetish, I know its helped mine over the years ..
