This is how th save a BMP file to a JPG (or jpeg) to reduce the file size, but not the quality.

You just saved a picture from the scanner, or camera. Now you want to make sure its saved as a JPG because as a BMP, the "file size" is too big to email (on a lot of ISPs'). Open the picture with a program that lets you save it in a different format.

On Windows98 and up, you can use "Paint" found in the "START, Programs, Accesories" . OR you can use the photo editor that came with the scanner. The program I use now is ""Irfanview",. It has a lot more options than Windows paint program.

Follow the steps pictured below to see how to "save as" a photo. I'm using the scanners program below, but its the same with "Paint".

Find the Picture you want to convert from the program
Select Save as

then, click the "Save as type"

drop-down window,

Then click on JPEG-Files

then Save.

. To change the viewing size(actual area) use the "Stretch and Skew" function of the Paint program.
