Meet My Sons
On June 26, 1961, I gave birth to my first child and named him Stephen O'Neal Gerard. He only weighed 5 lbs. 2 ozs. and was 18" long.  After a day or so, he had lost a few ounces and had to be put into the incubator at the hospital because he was so tiny and cold.  After six days in the hospital, we finally went home; and ,suddenly, I had gone from being a child myself to being a mother.  This was both a joy for me and a big challange.  What I knew about being a mother you could put in a thimble, but somehow I managed to raise him; and  today he is a field service engineer for a southern California company and gets sent all over the world to teach others to use a machine to test and make the Intel chip for computers.   I recently got to take a trip with him when he went to Malaysia and that is another story in itself.  What a trip and what memories I will always have of that.

This is Stephen's high school graduation picture.  He was 18 when he graduated from Temple City High School in Southern California.

On May 19, 1965 I delivered another baby boy, and we named him Michael James Gerard.  He weighed in at 6 lbs. 4 ozs. and was 21" long.  When Mike was 11 months old, he started having seizures; and many other problems developed after that, and life was very hard for our family from that time own.  I spent the next 5 years trying to find the doctor that would find the magic cure for him, but this was not to happen.  Back then it seemed that there was no real help for a child with so many problems.  He would not eat when he was young, and was hospitalized four times with malnutrition.  As he grew older, so did his problems; and there were learning disabilities, mental, and physical problems that developed.  He lives with his father and is not able to get a job due to his disabilities.  On June 19th, 2006, Mike died in Methodist Hospital at the age of 41yrs and 1 month.  He has joined my husband and mom in heaven.
