NEW HAMPSHIRE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION |
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (DOT) is tasked w/maintaining the roadways and highways in New Hampshire with emphasis on all State Routes and Interstates. In addition, NHDOT provides traffic control systems (Lights/Signals), Highway/Road Engineering, Snow Removal and all aspects of Interstate/State Route Operations. They Operate Six Regional Divisions, a Turnpike Division, and others divisions suck as engineering, Traffic and others. NHDOT is currently placing a new UHF system in service replacing the existing UHF system and eventually will be a UHF trunked system. For Now they utilize different repeaters (often on different frequencies) for each Division. PL tones are used to access the different repeaters and usually it's best to leave the frequency without PL in the scanner. However, if interested in a specific location, the PL's may come inhandy as all of the repeaters transmit the PL used to talk in. |

NHDOT's numbering system utilizes 3-4 digit numbers. The 1st indicates the Division (8=Turnpikes). The Second & third indicate route areas, unit designation types and three digit units are normally supervisors. Four digit units operate under the given 3 digit unit. For example 2134 is assigned to 213. Other divisions use various numbers not assigned to Turnpikes or numbered divisions. |
I would like to thank Scott Rice for this infoirmation. Scott has done extensive research on the NHDOT's new system, frequencies and PL tones. Scott has extensive knowledge of radio operations in the State of New Hampshire Specializing on Public Works, Aviation and Electric Company Operations. |
