NEW HAMPSHIRE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Emergency Management (NHEM) is tasked with the protection of New Hampshire's citizens and visitors from large scale emergencies including Hazardous Materials, Nuclear, Terrorist, Technological, and Natural. While NHEM has access to the State Police's Digital system, they're primary system is a VHF Low-Band System. In addition, some UHF frequencies are used for linking, repeater and the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS is a system set up to alert the public of emergencies (including severe weather) via Television and Radio Broadcast frequencies. The system is controlled by UHF frequencies with receivers in these stations that will interupt regular shows/braodcasts to air the emergency. In addition, NHEM utilizes low-power VHF-High & UHF frequencies for table top drills at various locations throughout the state. Low-Band Repeaters are located in Pembroke, Deerfield, Newington, Keene and Lancaster with additional UHF links and repeater in Deerfield. EAS transmitters are shown below. On July 1st. 2002, the New Hampshire Emergency Management became the first of it's kind nationally to be reassigned from the Office of Governer to another agency. NHEM now operates under the Department of Safety, directly reporting to the State Fire Marshal
