I decided that I was going to see what the truck was run so I headed of to my local track, which by the way I must mention was much more comfortable in the Lightning than my other, though much faster 1996 Z28. Track Session # 1 Basically a big flop. The track was still moist (rained the night before), cold (even though it was in the 50's, the track was still stuck in early April chill), and had no traction compound until about 8:30 that night. It was virtually impossible for me to hook up. I left on idle barely getting into it vs. a few times trying to get a little stall out of it. Nothing worked. Track Session # 2 A much better night of racing. Traction was not much of a problem and with fast cars at the track, traction compound was put down. The only problem with the night was the number of cars. I believe that I could have gotten 13.4's if I would have tried one more time, but I had to get home. Track Session # 3 Another big flop in my book. On run 5 I switched to BFG Drag Radials, which helped, but the track was hooking so poorly, it made little difference. Track Session # 4 A decent night of racing. Traction was no problem with each run the 60' was dropping. Track Session # 5 A good night of racing. New parts are working out better, but the 60' still needs some work. Track Session # 6 A great day of racing. My first sub 2 second 60' and the truck is coming around well. The new round of mods paid off well. Track Session # 7 A decent night of racing. I am really trying to learn how to launching the truck and off idle seems to work by far the best. Also, realizing how much a decent cool down of the truck affects MPH. Track Session # 8 Another night of racing. It seems my MPH is lower than I was expecting given the conditions at the track. I installed a Belltech 2" drop in the rear which has greatly reduced my 60' times. Track Session # 9 A great night of racing. I am really starting to get the hang of launching the truck. Off idle seems by far the best way so far. Track Session # 10 Rented out Norwalk with a bunch of Mustang guys. Track hooked well and the truck ran well. Weather conditions could have been better, DA was 1500 for the most part of the day. Track Session # 11 A good night of racing. Got some decent mph and my fastest Dragway 42 ET so far. Track Session # 12 A strong night of racing. Weather was great, DA was 600' for the most part. Almost hit 110 MPH...for what little is done to the truck, I am impressed. Track Session # 13 A good night of racing but track prep sucked big time...I luckily got a low 1.9 60'. New mod this time was an intercooler fan setup, basically just two Spal fans on the back of my intercooler. All my runs mph were over 109 and I attribute it to this. Track Session # 14 A good day of racing. Low temps and nice air made for some pretty decent runs. If the truck had some traction I might have seen some low 12's.... Track Session # 15 Added a ported blower to the truck and based on the difference in weather the truck actually is about 2 MPH faster given equal conditions. Track Session # 16 Added a phelonic spacer to the upper plenum. The weather was identical to the Track Session # 14 the year before. |

WEATHER AND ALTITUDE CORRECTION FACTORS None of my runs are corrected for either. Dragway 42 is at an elevation of 700' Norwalk Raceway is at an elevation of 892' NHRA Altitude Correction Factor Dragway 42 - ET x .9926, MPH x 1.0073 Drops ET by 0.10 and adds 0.80 MPH to each run. Norwalk Raceway - ET x .9913, MPH x 1.0087 Drops ET by 0.11 and adds 0.94 MPH to each run This also does not account for DA adjustment. |
