John Nettles goes to a theatre school in Bristol and an animation studio in deepest Devon, and meets some of Britain's best-loved actors, who talk about their craft. From the archives, there is an interview with the late, great Spike Milligan, who discusses his cartoon brain and delivers some anecdotes from his life as a Goon.

At a village hall theatre, the presenter meets a remarkably small cast. He also visits Gidleigh Park on Dartmoor for an encounter with a celebrity chef and appears as a guest on a radio talk show in Somerset where he takes in the making of a play by a group of young hopefuls.

Love, Lust & Desire
The presenter investigates lust and desire in artistic performances. Singer Ralph McTell illustrates his life and career through song and stories and actor Stephanie Cole talks about her character's unlikely seduction by a young house-painter in Doc Martin.

John Nettles takes a look at the importance of dance in the life of an actor. Plus, he meets two musicians who compose theme music, and witnesses a boozy get-together with the Sidmouth Mummers, who perform an unusual party piece which includes Prince George, King James, Horatio Nelson and Father Christmas.
