The Great Elanthian Cooking Contest, Koan’s Day

by Palooka

Stuff for Palooka’s cooking contest…

I.  The ‘gig’ will have 6 contestants specially picked by me, at the beginning I’ll speak about the nature of the contest.   (Ever seen the food TV shows Iron Chef?)

I’ll begin by introducing the contestants, and the panel (we’re the panel)

Then I’ll begin the contest by unveiling the secret ingredient.

II.  The game is played in 3 phases.   Each contestant will prepare 3 sets of ACTIONs

1st set  The player will act to describe how he’s setting up to begin cooking, outline approximately how many dishes he’s going to make with the featured ingredient, and what his cooking area ‘looks like’.  For example:  Ingredient… Rack of Rolton

(Palooka is seen quickly moving between 3 dwarven pot-bellied stoves each covered with bubbling pots of aromatic sauces and rich broths.  The first is being jury-rigged to provide for the smoking of thinly sliced red herring and has a large pot of Solhaven clams just beginning to simmer.)

(Palooka darts over to check a large frying pan containing extra-virgin olive oil, finely minced shallots and thick slabs of Halfling Zucchini.  As he grabs the iron handle he jumps back in pain and nearly knocks over his Rack of Rolton which appears to be smeared with a thick paste of garlic, chili peppers and Calamia fruit)

2nd set:  The player will prepare a set of ACTIONS about how his dishes are progressing:

(Palooka is assembling his individual Rolton Rack chops on beds of lightly vinegared red romaine lettuce with herbed zucchini and gnollish mushrooms.  On another platter, his full Rack of Rolton has just been taken from the oven and is resting near a large array of bundled herbs and bowls of steaming shellfish.) etc….

3rd set:  The player will present his dishes to the panel in the form of an ACTION:

(Palooka bows slightly to the panel as he presents his Finely prepared Elven style Rolton Chops, crusted with garlic fennel breadcrumbs on a bed of red romaine lettuce, tofu stuffed gnollish mushroom pate’ and lemon buttered zucchini.  You also see a beautiful full Rack of Calamia Rolton sporting little paper hats around the crown and served with a thick sauce of Solhaven clam puree with tarragon and course sea salt)

III.  Each player will have about 5 minutes to prepare each set of actions, and they may cut them into shorter sentences if they desire….  They must wait until called upon to reveal their actions for each segment….  If they don’t produce their action within 20 seconds of being called upon…. Palooka will ridicule them for having no concept of gourmet cooking, or sense of time management..  I’ll rotate among the players no one person will always be short changed on time.

Now for the Judges’ part…

During the 4 minutes the players are working out their actions,,, we’ll provide commentary about what we think we see going on….  the first round we don’t know what their ideas are, so we’ll speak mostly about our favorite versions of the featured ingredient, after that,,, we can fill up time by commenting on the player’s previous actions.   The three of us should RECITE everything we say, so its easily ‘understood’….  if you don’t know a lot about cooking,,,  just act that way….  comment about having no clue, but wonder what it’ll taste like etc…  I’ll be spouting off cooking jargon and ideas and such to help the players out…. there is no penalty for stealing an idea from the judges panel,,,  the point of the game is having fun using the ACT command….

At the end, we’ll make a final judgment on who ‘won’ the cooking contest and award prizes…..

Try to be at the Silverwood pavilion about 10 till 8 elven so we can work out details…  it’ll take about an hour to get through the game… thanks!

Extra consideration will be given to the creative use of Herbs and spring themed veggies in their dishes.
