OUR HISTORY |
Bangor Ice Skating Club was formed in Bangor Cineplex and Ice Bowl, in September 1990 and subsequently moved to Dundonald International Ice Bowl when the Bangor Ice Rink closed in April 1991. The aim of the club has always been to promote and cultivate ice skating as a sport, by providing a family, fun atmosphere. From that base we provide coaching and encouragement for those who wish to pursue opportunities within the sport. Namely Basic skills, figure skating, Precision skating, Speed Skating and Ice Hockey. In recent years BISC achieved notoriety in Northern Ireland for it`s very successful Ice Shows. JOSEPH ON ICE Watched by an audience of 1,400 people, this show had over 40 children in the cast, from 4 year old to 16. WIZARD OF OZ Watched by an audience of over 1,600 people, over 80 children took part in this show, from 4 year old to 18. At present we have 2 figure skating coaches and 1 hockey coach. We have a membership of 133 which is steadily rising, on a weekly basis. Quite a few of our senior skaters have moved on or have stopped skating. The club is now, essentialy a fun club and we include hockey and group skating lessons in our weekly sessions as well as a lot of fun and games. It works, It's popular and although we still have quite a few figure skaters, the present club in it's new form is one of the biggest skating clubs in the U.K. and the biggest in Ireland |
