Bio and martial arts background Bruce was born in the Year of the Dragon. Already in 1946 he had his screen debut in The Beginning of a Boy in Hong Kong. Only in 1953 he started his martial arts training under Sifu Yip Man in the Wing Chun arts. Bruce also appeared to be a great dancer and in 1956 he won a Cha Cha Cha championship. After being in some streetfights Bruce returned to San Fransisco. He had some odd jobs and started teaching Kung Fu in backyards and city parks, but also to students at his school in 1961 where he studied Philosophy. In the meantime he met and dated Linda Cadwell, who'd become his wife later. In 1964, Bruce would evaluate his martial arts and develope a new art: Jeet Kune Do, the way of the intercepting fist. After a demonstration Bruce is noticed by some leading men in the martial arts and movie industry and he would get some tv-roles. In 1966 he'd have his role in The Green Hornet as Kato, which made his fame. Bruce became more and more popular. Some of his former students are famous actors at this time. After some great movie successes and the birth of his 2 children Bruce died of a brain tumor. His martial art is still being practised and his star shines even brighter than ever............. Bruce is still considered as one of the best fighters ever, with his speed, his animal like sounds and perfection. He is many times imitated and his style is still unique, fluent, unorthodox, unlike others. Stats: Man of the Year in 1974 Jeet Kune Do instructor of the Year in 1972 |
