Ray Park was introduced to martial arts by his father who was a Bruce Lee-fan. He started taking lessons at the age of 7, specialized in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, the Chin Woo Kung Fu style. Being very athletic he soon mastered the style and gained a second dan black belt, and at the age of 14 he added other martial arts to his skills, including Kickboxing and Wushu. He also started doing gymnastics.
At this time he started doing competitions. He was 16 at the time he won his first championships. He became very popular and was selected to join a group and train in Malaysia. After that he compete over the whole world.
He has been in some great tournaments such as:
First World WuShu Championships in Bei Jing
Malaysian national Championships (as one of only four western invited fighters)
European Championships in London: 4 gold medals
International WuShu/Chin Woo Championships in Tian Qin, China: 2 gold and 1 silver medal
And many other tournaments
He did jobs, duch as training other martial artists and gymnasts. He got noticed by people who wanted him in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation as an actor, stuntman and double. He became popular immediately and became a world star after taking the role as Darth Maul in Star Wars. Those were roles in which you didn't see his face or here his voice. With X-Men his first acting role started and his popularity rises even more.
Ray is good friends with Robin Shou but missed a part in Shou's Red Trousers as Jia Fei because of his work for Star Wars. To fix this, Ray passed for a role in Skinwalkers in 2006 in order to work again with Shou on Dead Mule Suitcase.
