Bio and martial arts background Don, wishing to follow in his father's foorsteps attended the Coast Guard Academy to become Engineer. At the time Don's brother Jim, was a Kung Fu practisioner. After a lesson from his brother Don's goal changed. Martial arts were his new passion, which would be no problem because Don was already a great athlete captaining in football and basketball at school. Don started studying Pai Lum, the 'Dragon-style' in 1972. That didn't feel perfect for him, although he did gain a black belt, and soon he discovered Kickboxing, which was for 'real fights'. His professional carreer started in 1974. In 1978 he become more popular and in 1979 he won his first grand title: PKA US Middleweight Champion. Don was very famous for his incredible kicking skills. He won his first world title in 1980 and many mor later in the 80's. Don retired in 1984 known as the greatest fighter and champion after being a champion for 11 straight years. He'd won 11 world titles in 3 different weight classes under 6 organizations. He defeated several National and World Champions. Some awesome stats: 71 wins, 5 losses, 2 draws, 47 KOs, and 6 Kick KO's 2000 ISKA North American Cruiserweight Title 1999 IFK Cruiserweight World Champion 1989 PKA Light-Heavyweight World Champion 1988 ISKA Cruiserweight World Champion 1984 STAR and WKA Super Light-Heavyweight World Champion STAR Carreer Champion: Highest Rated Kickboxer of All Time Black Belt Hall of Fame and Official Karate Hall of Fame 1983 STAR and WKA Cruiserweight World Champion KICK Light-Heavyweight World Champion 1982 WKC Light Heavyweight World Champion 1980 STAR and WKA Light-Heavyweight World Champion 1979 PKA Middleweight US Champion 1978 PKA MIddleweight Florida State Champion After his Kickboxing carreer Don went to Hollywood after some help of his friend Chuck Norris. Don got to know the right people like Roger Corman and soon became an action film star after 1989, and has now appeared in numerous movies, from which many are produced by Don himself. |
