As a child he already had some athletic skills being a good football player at Mariposa High. He attended Santa Monica College but was more interested in the arts taking up dance and acting lessons.
For his role in Vanishing Son Russell took martial arts lessons, and became a good fighter. He show his skills in some other movies such as Romeo Must Die, but is still able to not land in the 'action: straight to video' circuit, but also takes many dramatic and character role.
Many people consider Russell as one of the most beautiful men on earth.
