WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Mark Recchi had a season-high four points as the
Philadelphia Flyers downed the Washington Capitals, 4-1, on Sunday. Recchi
recorded a goal and an assist in the first period, helped Michal Handzus
estblish a 3-1 lead early in the second and set up Kim Johnsson for his fourth
tally of the season midway through the third. Recchi has six assists and eight
points over his last six games and leads the club with 24 assists and 42
points. Handzus added an assist and John LeClair chipped in with a goal and
three assists for Philadelphia, which has won three straight for the first time
since November 8 and has outscored its opponents by a combined 19-9 over its
last six games. Robert Esche needed just 12 saves to raise his record to
15-6-4. Rastislav Stana, who made his first start since November 26,
surrendered four goals on 22 shots in defeat. Mike Grier netted the lone goal
for Washington, which has lost three straight after dropping just one of its
previous five.
