DETROIT, MI -- Mathieu Schneider had a goal and an assist as the Detroit Red
Wings doubled up the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, on Sunday. Schneider opened the
scoring early in the first period with help from Robert Lang and set up a power-
play strike by Kirk Maltby midway through the second for a 3-1 lead. Lang
finished with three assists and Steve Yzerman added a goal and an assist for
Detroit, which has taken five of its last seven. Manny Legace recorded his
sixth victory in his last eight starts after stopping 18 of the 20 shots he
faced. Sean Burke, who gave up four or more goals for the fifth time in his
last seven starts, made 23 saves in the loss. Mark Recchi and Simon Gagne each
scored for Philadelphia, which is 6-4-3-3 against the Western Conference this
season.
