WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Jeff Halpern recorded two points for the second time in as
many games for the Washington Capitals in a 2-1 triumph over the Philadelphia
Flyers on Saturday. Halpern broke a scoreless tie on the power play late in the
first period and set up a man-advantage tally by Anson Carter midway through
the second. Olaf Kolzig turned aside all 14 shots he faced between the first
and second periods and finished with 24 saves for Washington, which halted a
three-game winless skid. Sean Burke made 18 saves in the loss. Michal Handzus
registered his 10th career shorthanded goal for Philadelphia, which fell to
11-11 in one-goal games this year.
