PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Mark Recchi scored a shorthanded goal late in the third
period to help the Philadelphia Flyers earn a 4-4 tie with the Carolina
Hurricanes on Saturday. Recchi, who also registered an assist to give him seven
points in his last four games, put a feed from Eric Desjardins behind
goaltender Jamie Storr with 3:10 left in regulation to complete the scoring.
Desjardins added an assist and Jeremy Roenick netted his second power-play goal
of the season for Philadelphia, which has recorded eight points over its last
seven games. Jeff Hackett helped shut down three Carolina power plays and made
31 saves to preserve the tie for the Flyers. Storr, who made his first
appearance of the season. stopped 28 shots for the Hurricanes, who had a
season-high four goals and skated to a tie for the fourth time in their last
five games. Radim Vrbata registerd a goal and an assist and Niclas Wallin
scored twice for Carolina.
