EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- Michael Rupp tallied his first two goals of the season
as the New Jersey Devils edged the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, on Thursday. Rupp
cut the Philadelphia lead to 2-1 with 34 seconds gone in the second period and
put a pass from Scott Stevens past goaltender Jeff Hackett midway through the
third to complete the scoring. Stevens added a power-play goal and Martin
Brodeur turned aside 14 shots for New Jersey, which has won three of its last
four after taking just two of its first seven. Hackett, whose winless skid
increased to 0-2-1 with a 3.59 goals-against average since October 21, made 25
saves in the loss. Tony Amonte and Simon Gagne each had a goal for the Flyers,
who fell to 1-2-1-1 on the road.
