TORONTO, ONT -- Sami Kapanen scored his first two goals of the season as the
Philadelphia Flyers routed the Toronto Maple Leafs, 7-1, on Saturday. Kapanen
gave his team a 4-0 lead early in the second period and beat goaltender Ed
Belfour 5:48 into the final stanza for a five-goal lead. Michal Handzus, Kim
Johnsson and Justin Williams each added a goal and an assist for Philadelphia,
which has three of its last four games by a combined score of 19-5. Robert
Esche, who improved to 3-1-1 with a 1.77 goals-against average and a .922 save
percentage, stopped 21 shots for the Flyers. Belfour was torched for seven
goals on 22 shots in the loss. Darcy Tucker had the lone goal for Toronto,
which allowed seven goals on home ice for the first time in more than two
years.
