PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Sami Kapanen had a goal and an assist in the third period
and Jeff Hackett recorded his third shutout of the season as the Philadelphia
Flyers registered their sixth consecutive victory by defeating the Atlanta
Thrashers, 4-0, on Saturday. Kapanen, who registered two points in game for the
fourth time this year, broke a scoreless tie 34 seconds into the final stanza
and set up Simon Gagne less than six minutes later. Hackett made double-digit
saves in the second period and finished with 24 saves, improving to 3-0-0 with
a 0.66 goals-against average and a .971 save percentage since November 8. John
LeClair and Jeremy Roenick each added a goal for Philadelphia, which has taken
eight of its last nine and remained unbeaten on home ice with a mark of 7-0-2-0.
Byron Dafoe, who stopped all 22 shots he faced entering the third period, gave
up four goals on 13 shots in the loss for Atlanta, which has dropped three
straight and four of its last five.
