Etta is someone I worked with many times and I think in all my years of playing she truly is one of the most amazing performers I have ever worked with.
To stand behind her when shes singing and watch the reaction shes getting from the audience is magical.
We used to rehearse the tunes she was going to do for the week on the Monday afternoon at the club. The Brunswick House was a great place to play. It had a reputation for roots style music and they would get fabulous headliners and hire local musicians to back them up. We all benefitted by this arrangement not only for the work itself but the experience.
During the week Etta would conduct us through the tunes and it was a bit nerve racking but fun.
One night Ben E. King dropped in and sang Stand By Me with Etta. This is one of my fondest memories.
