..ITS NOT THE GUN, ITS THE GUNNER...
This is probably my oldest friend. Its a 1968 Gibson ES335TDC that I bought when I was 17. I played it till there was almost nothing left of it. I only use it on the occasional gig but I cant part with it. I sold it once and felt so spooked that I bought it back. It will live its life out ...and mine... under my bed.
This is the guitar that I play most of the time now. Its a PRS and to be honest its the best playing instrument I have ever owned. Even nicer than the other PRS that Ive played for the last 10 years. The maple cap makes a lot of difference to the sound and no springs in the back helps a lot to. The springs for the wammy in a guitar act as a kind of resonator and they change the sound. This guitar is more like a Les Paul. Duh!
This is the amp that I have used for the last 26 years or so. Its a Musicman 112.65 that I bought at LandMs in 1979. It has been used on about 3000 gigs and thats not an exageration. I use it mostly for teaching at home now. It smells like a huge ashtray so it stays downstairs..
I built this Strat myself. Yes I did. The body is mahogany and the pick guard is a piece of formica I found under my furnace. I inlaid little mother of pearl muffins in the neck hence its name. I call it Mr. Muffin after my youngest son whose nickname is Muffin. It is a wonderful sounding guitar but its not very easy to play. I made the neck super extra extremely fat to help with fatigue in my left hand so as a result it is not a speedy guitar to play. Still it sounds great on certain gigs. Slow ones......
I made this guitar to. I did so. This was the first guitar I built from scratch. I took a guitar building course at The Twelfth Fret ...one of the best things Ive ever done... and this was the project. It weighs as much as my car so I dont use it much. UPDATE in order to lighten this mutt I have installed a couple of clocks and a hygrometer. Get a load of this. And I do mean load. .
This was a Squire Tele once. Now its better I think. It has a new neck and a Parsons White String Bender. It has a drop thing for the low E as well. I had it rewired so it has some different sounds. Really, it just sounds like a Tele. I dont use it much but its fun to goof around with on a gig if Im not paying much attention. That, of course, doesnt happen very often...
Were almost done here.
This is getting down to the dregs.
This is a guitar that I use for travelling. I pop the neck off and throw it in my suitcase. I should take the router to it because it weighs a lot. I probably could take a few pounds off it. Its an Elite from the early 80s. A true disco guitar. These are much overlooked and cheap. If you take the pickups off and put something on that works they sound great.
This is a treat that I bought for myself because Im so old. Its a hand built archtop guitar. Built by Doug Harrison. Its number 1 so I have high hopes that it will be very valuable one day. Even if it doesnt turn out to be like one of those DAngelicos and I cant retire to the south of France when I sell it, I sure love it now. Doug made me a pair of F hole plugs so I can use it on louder gigs.
This is one of those weenie shots.
This is a Gibson GA 75 W. It used to be my main amp until it just became too old to use. I wont ever sell it. For years I used this amp and my 335. They are like relatives.
The Hawaiians are no big deal really. The brown one is a ...Roger... Some guy named Roger made it totally from scratch. Every part. Even the jack. I love it. Unfortunately..when I play it.. I stink....
