Aurora Borealis, September 2002 |

I was sitting back readying the lx200 and accompanying four SLRs for a night of astrophotography up at the camp, getting more and more frustrated as darkness just would not arrive. Around 9:00 I noticed a dome forming in the north all the way to the west engulfing the entirety of the big dipper. All of a sudden, that light dome turned into vertical streaks up and down the sky, the lights danced until 3:30am and I watched it all. Here are some photos. |

27mm 40 second exposure, camera mounted to the scope. Film was kodak LE400. |
|
27 mm wide angle lens, 20 second exposure. This film did a great job picking up the reds and pinks which were less visible then the green to the naked eye. |
